"This recipe turned out disappointing for me as well. I'm no novice to cooking. I saw the video and read the recipe. Alex's video instructions were very different from the written recipe offered. In reading to the end of the recipe, it states that Food network altered the recipe for better results, which could be the probem. The filling was very tasty, but the pastry was not flaky, layered or crispy like it should have been. This is one of my favorite pastries, and I have had it at several bakeries in Little Italy as well as at Ferrara's. I should give Alex the benefit of the doubt and follow her video instructions precisely instead of following the altered Food Network recipe. After all, Alex was taught by the Ferrara's. I don't understand how Food Network can take a chef's recipe and alter it. It's not fair to the chef.
