My Activity

Reviewed Green Bean Casserole

"This is an amazing good dish. I was unable to get fresh beans, and used two cans of Allen brand cut beans. I also used a bit of bacon fat with the butter to saute the onions and mushrooms. I omitted the cheese since another dish I served was loaded with cheese. Everyone was clamoring for seconds.

Reviewed Diner-Style Hot Turkey Sandwiches

"We have Thanksgiving early due to travel plans. And while looking for ways to use leftovers, I found this recipe which I modified to suit what I had on hand. I topped toast with cornbread dressing. No self-respecting cook in my family would serve any other kind. Then added sliced turkey over the dressing. The only change I made to the gravy was re"

Reviewed Huevos Rancheros

"This was served to guests, and was well received. I am from Texas, and would never use black beans or feta cheese in a truly Mexican dish. I used pinto beans (mashed) and grated Mexican blend cheese. I have used recipes I liked better."

Reviewed Spaghetti all' Elsa

"Very tasty. One of the best recipes out there. I added mushrooms and browned ground beef to sauce and cooked in slow cooker for about 4 hours. Everyone wanted seconds."

Reviewed Baked Fish Dugler-ini and Angel Hair Pasta

"I substituted coconut oil for EVOO with little change in flavor, and as always, added more garlic than recipe called for. The pasta was one of the best I have eaten. Be sure to fork test cod often since the thinner filets are easily overcooked. Overall, an excellent recipe, and the best indication of the recipe's goodness--my 2-year-old great-gra"

Reviewed Roast Beef with Spicy Parsley Tomato Sauce

"I cooked the roast for a couple of hours in the oven at 275. It came out fork tender. Found the vinegar a bit over-powering, but overall, a tasty dish. Looking forward to trying it again, but with less vinegar.""

Reviewed Roasted Salmon Nicoise Platter

"Awesome recipe. Very pretty presentation, designed to impress the most discriminating guest. Was unable to get haricot verts and arugula way out in the sticks, but substituted them with blue lake green beans (cooked a few minutes longer than 1-1/2 minutes, but still crisp-tender) and leaf lettuce without any degradation in taste or appearance. Reviewed Herb Roasted Chicken

"The broth and veggies were good, but can't say the same for the chicken. The chicken was dry even though there was plenty of liquid.I usually love the golden brown skin, but the herbs made it taste like dry grass. ""

About Me

I have always loved to cook new recipes and have over the years marked my favorites in my many cookbooks. But I have to tell you about my first experience with cooking for my in-laws and Baked Alaska. Everything was perfect. The brick of ice cream set squarely in the middle of the cake, and was covered with beautiful snowy white meringue, peaks stiffly erect. BUT, on the way to the oven, the screw-in handle on the cutting board turned loose, and dumped my masterpiece on the floor. We salvaged the Baked Alaska. Boy, was my face red. I have attempted many difficult recipes over the years, but not one is remembered as well as Baked Alaska on the Floor.
