Reviewed slow-cooker braised brisket (machaca)

Jun 8, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

OMG... Fantastico! We made this yesterday and we're having the leftovers tonight. Wow. Fabulous flavor. We used chuck roast instead of brisket as that was on sale at the store. We also substituted jalapenos as they were out of seranos. Really really reallly good and my husband is very picky. It makes a huge amount so we had dinner last night,...

Reviewed chicken and chickpea tagine with apricots and harissa sauce

May 25, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

This is delicious! I found a recipe for the ras al-hanut spice mix online and made my own since everything for it was already in my cabinet. I also actually had some saffron in my cabinet. The only adjustments I made was to use boneless chicken breasts instead of thighs since that is what I had on hand.
I have made this exact same recipe...

Reviewed beef stew

Mar 18, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

Really good but I did have some modifications...
I used beef bullion cubes, 2 of them, in the beer when added. Then I used some chicken stock instead of beef.
I added a tablespoon of worstershire and 2 bay leaves.
No celery, my husband hates it.
And I cooked mine in my crockpot while we were out for the day....

This was wonderful! I added a little bit extra on the buttermilk, and it was a sticky mess, but dusting with the flour and rolling into a ball worked fine. I couldn't find currents at the store so I used 1/2 cup golden raisins. LOVED it. My husband is a picky eater and he thought it was great but wished I had the currents (will use them next time)....

Reviewed Ron's Gluten-Free Chocolate Meringue Cookies

Dec 22, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

Made these today and I have a few comments. First, they are waaaay strong in the chocolate flavor, really hits you in the face chocolate. Second, they are really delicate and maybe not the best choice to make at altitude where I live. About half fell after coming out of the oven. Maybe they should cook longer? Tasty but just too delicate to...

Excellent and very fruity tasting! I didn't have macadamia so I substituted pine nuts since they are white. They are delicious and I will use this recipe again. No other substitutions needed for this one, it is perfect.

Reviewed Lavender Shortbread

Dec 19, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I just made these today and I am somewhat disappointed with the recipe. It is way too dry. I could not get it to come together enough to knead, so I added 1 tbsp of olive oil. It came together perfectly after that. If I had not made shortbread before, I would not have known what to do. I also did not bake as a sheet, I rolled out and cut into...

Loved it! At least 10 yrs ago we attended a party where the hostess had made Artichoke-Leek Pie. My husband couldn't get enough. It was so nice to finally find a great recipe to try. Last night I made this with leeks, mushrooms, and jack cheese. He LOVED it. He now wants me to make this more often and try the other variations, especially the...

Reviewed Butternut Squash with Pecans and Blue Cheese

Nov 21, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

This is almost exactly the dish I make regularly for my family. I do peel the butternut squash though. Then I toast the nuts (pecans or walnuts) and instead of blue cheese I use goat cheese or feta since those are always in my fridge.
Before serving I toss the mixture with raw spinach in the pan for 5 minutes on low heat, just until it...

Oct 22, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I made this cake with a few modifications this past weekend for a football tailgate. It was a huge hit.
First, I cut the sugar down as I thought it was waaaay too much. I did only 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Then I cut the oil down to 1/2 cup, and added another 1/2 cup of apple cidar and a few dashes of milk to get to the right...

Reviewed Crispy Mac and Cheese Cups

Oct 22, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

Very healthy and good! I made this last night and used leftover roasted butternut squash as well as some leftover grilled zucchini in mine. I also used goat cheese instead of the pecorino, and skipped the breadcrumbs on top. I also added a dash of turmeric for the mustard. This does NOT taste just like gooey mac & cheese, it tastes better...

FANTASTIC!! Made this last night and it was even better than expected. I had watched her do this recipe on the show and thought it sounded good, but WOW! I made it exactly as she did, no modifications. My husband took the leftovers for lunch today, he liked it that much. Light, fresh, crispy and lemony... yum."

AMAZING cookies!!!! We just made a batch of these and they are fantastic. Crunchy outside but soft gingerbread inside. Wonderful flavors. Very tasty, my family loved it Thanksgiving. My only suggestion is maybe to add some orange juice in addition to the pot. The orange I zesty was good, but didn't have alot of juice so the flavor wasn't as strong as I wanted. My daughter's boyfriend thought it was great but suggested maybe adding a 1/2 cup of red wine to it next time. Might hav"

Reviewed Herbed Lentils with Spinach and Tomatoes

Oct 12, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I made this last night and it was fantastic! I did not have the basil, mint, and parsley on hand so I did substitute 1/2 cup cilantro. I added 2 bay leaves to the cooking water with the lentils (something I always do with lentils).
When I added everything together in the pan, I decided not to add the lemon juice as the grape tomatoes...

Reviewed Chili Beef Stir-Fry with Scallions and Snow Peas

Jul 27, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Wow! I made this dish last night and my family (all love Asian and spicy food) thought it was a 5 star dish that you could get at any of the best Asian restaurants. The only modifications I made were adding mushrooms and red bell pepper.
The chili-garlic sauce comments for this recipe - totally depends which brand you buy as to whether...
