Delicious! This recipe was one of the best I have ever had. I substituted chicken stock for water and used applewood smoked bacon. At first I thought the butter might be unnecessary - but the smell of bacon/butter/and onion that filled my kitchen totally changed my mind. "

I made the grit portion of this recipe and loved it. I thought the taste was much more sophisticated than most cheese grit recipes. I used applewood smoked bacon topped with the Deen Boys Stewed Collard Greens - will try this with gruyere cheese next time.
