Reviewed creamy artichoke soup

1 day ago on FoodNetwork.com

Disgusting, acid, awful. What a waste of money and time, threw the entire thing down the drain. Even my husband hated it. Worst recipe I've ever made, normally love Giada's recipes.

Reviewed tahitian ice cream

Jul 15, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

The ice-cream tastes like a pina colada - it's an adult-friendly ice-cream great for a party. However, we found it way too rich and creamy. Could do with increasing the vanilla flavor to double, as it was only subtley there. The texture was ok in the initial serving, but it doesn't store well - when you try to eat it the next day, it's rock hard and...

Reviewed Spicy Chicken Coconut Curry

Aug 20, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Ah-mazing! Loved it! The only change I made is to use regular salted butter instead of ghee. Very easy to make and extremely tasty, served with basmati rice."

Reviewed Quinoa Pilaf

Aug 20, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Great salad dish, I love the arugula and quinoa together. I had to double the amount of cooking liquid to quinoa though as it just wasn't softening. The only thing I didn't add was the fresh mint, as I'm not a fan of it. I'd definitely make this again and keep it in my healthy-go-to recipes. Perhaps I'll sprinkle some crushed red pepper chili flak"

Reviewed Lone Star Molasses Baked Beans

Aug 15, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Toooo sweet! I think I'd just use the molasses and not add any brown sugar at all if I make these again, as the extra brown sugar just makes the dish too super-sweet. I took these to a potluck and everyone seemed to enjoy them though."

Reviewed Chocolate-Ancho Chili Flourless Cake

Jul 10, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This torte is just ok, I wasn't a fan of the chili powder in here, it was too smoky and gave it a savory taste. I normally love chili chocolate, so this was disappointing. I also only baked it for 40mins as it was already getting too dark on top and at the edges. I might try it with cayenne pepper instead next time."

Reviewed Creamy Artichoke and Spinach Dip

Jul 8, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This dip was ok, but I wasn't fond of the lemon zest in here - it was too strong & overpowered the other flavors. "

Reviewed Lemon Cake

May 3, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This cake was SO dry and way too dense. Way too much flour in this batter recipe. Tried to eat one slice, then threw the entire thing in the trash."

Reviewed Chocolate-Raspberry Mascarpone Bars

Mar 28, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I only used 3 eggs in the marscapone mixture, which was plenty, it still set perfectly - there's no need for 5 eggs here. The problem was the biscotti base went all sticky & gooey from the raspberry jam. I'd recommend leaving the jam out altogether, it's not needed, the entire dessert is already super sweet. "

Reviewed Best Ever Coconut Cream Pie

Jan 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was my first time making coconut cream pie. I like the texture of the center custard - but it wasn't a very strong coconut flavor, more like vanilla custard. Maybe using all coconut milk instead of whole milk? And maybe add coconut extract flavoring? Also, only needed a third of the toasted coconut for the top."

Reviewed Spiced Apple-Walnut Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

Oct 4, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

The batter was so sweet before baking, that I didn't add any of the brown sugar to it - it's totally not needed in here with so much sweet syrup. It's a pricey cake, as maple syrup isn't cheap. Baked mine for 55mins exactly & it came out the pan perfectly. It's not dry or crumbly & it's very spiced. I just wasn't overwhelmed by this cake & don't t"

Reviewed Amaretto Chocolate Tart with Apricot Cream

Sep 30, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Very chocolaty! The crust came out great, I had some spare dough so I froze it. The center is incredibly chocolaty & not very sweet. I'd recommend doubling the sugar or using semisweet chocolate chips instead. I didn't make the apricot-cream, I just used heavy whipping cream instead, but it does need something creamy to cut through the richness."

Reviewed Chocolate-Cranberry Treats

Sep 15, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Pretty sweet! I did have a few lumps of egg in the mixture when I was cooking it on the hob, which was a bit odd, I just picked them out. I swapped almonds for hazelnuts. I didn't roll the balls in chocolate, I just added 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips into the mixture. I let the mixture cool for 20mins, made the balls & let them set for 10mins in t"

This cake is great, soft & fluffy. I swapped nutmeg for cinnamon in the topping & only put half the amount of ginger in the batter. I also added the zest of a lemon to the batter & used brown sugar for the topping. I'd recommend using a 7x9 or 5x9 baking dish, otherwise you'll end up with a very thin, flat cake - there's nowhere near enough batter"

I made just the cookies, they were great, but they spread out quite a bit on the cookie sheet. Very chocolaty & yummy! I halved the recipe & it made 11 cookies."

Reviewed Turkey and Spinach Taquitos

Sep 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Marscapone has no place here! As soon as I put it into the turkey spinach mixture, it melted into an oily watery mess... I had to wring the turkey & spinach out before putting it in the tortillas to stop them being completely soggy. Omit the marscapone, add some garlic, chili & more cumin & it may become a nice recipe."

Reviewed Mahi Mahi with Mango-Vanilla Coulis

Sep 1, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Delicious! I used cod instead of mahi-mahi. And I used half a teaspoon vanilla extract instead of the bean. The coulis came out great, a slight spiciness from the ginger & subtle sweetness from the mango. I served alongside haricot verts green beans. "

Reviewed Strawberry, Lemon and Basil Mimosa

Aug 19, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Pretty good, but I wish it had more of a strawberry/basil flavor in the drink, not just floating in the drink. Perhaps making a basil/strawberry simple syrup and using that instead of agave would work better."

Reviewed Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Aug 19, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was good, I used fresh crushed garlic and grated extra strong white cheddar in the dip. Downside, I don't think the recipe is very helpful saying 'serve hot'... I had to guess what temp in the oven & how long to bake it for. Sprinkled parmesan on top and baked at 350 for half an hour."

Reviewed Chinese Turkey Salad

Healthy and hearty salad perfect for summertime. The turkey is infused with the flavors in the broth. I didn't use any wontons to garnish but the salad was great without them. Enjoyed the Asian-style dressing."

Reviewed Orange-Scented Chilled Tomato Soup

Aug 10, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I ate my soup hot, the orange compliments the tomato and serves as a warm undertone, cutting through the richness of the tomato flavor. The maple syrup adds a touch of sweetness and removes the tomato acidity."

Reviewed Gruyere and Spinach Bakes

Aug 10, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

These look cute and taste good. I used pastrami instead of pancetta and white strong cheddar instead of gruyere. I also sprinkled grated mozzarella on top for a golden cheesy topping. Serve them quickly because they puff up in the oven and shrink back down when cooler."

Reviewed Baked Risotto

Aug 8, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I part-cooked my risotto rice in water for 15-20mins & then drained before using it in the recipe, so it came out fine.
I only used 2 eggs as I didn't really see the point of them in this recipe... and I used pastrami instead of proscuitto.
It came out well but it's not a great recipe, not something I'd make again. "

Reviewed Spinach Loaf

Aug 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was a complete mess, what a waste of time & money on ingredients. After attempting to try this bland unappealing dish, this pile of green goo went straight in the trash. Both my husband & I were appalled. Worst Giada recipe ever."

Reviewed Chicken and Honey Mustard Pinwheels

Aug 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I made some measurement alterations. I used 1/3 cup marscapone, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of mustard, 2 cooked chicken breasts chopped up & a cup of arugula chopped up. My pinwheels came out great. I love the lemon zest, gives it a real zing."

Reviewed Classic Strawberry Shortcake

Aug 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I used half n half instead of cream in the shortcakes, for a slightly healthier recipe. I also used 1/2 cup sugar in the mix as I like a sweeter shortcake. I added the crystalized ginger & the grated fresh ginger. Yum - the ginger lifts these to a new level & adds some zing! The texture is something inbetween a cake & a scone, maybe slightly dry."
