I did skip the sugar and reduced the mayo...and I still prefer using my crushed saltines in the salmon/potato mixture as I really like the flavor they add. This was a delicious pasta salad and am sure I will be making it many times. I added at least a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice just before adding in the cooked pasta, and also topped with shaved Parmesan cheese (a couple ingredients which Giada also loves.
