Reviewed Free Range Fruitcake
"Fabulous! Made a dozen miniloaves last year and have requests to fill this Christmas. Added some chopped up dates and figs. Contemplating baking it in a 13x8 cake pan this year and making cake balls out of it with homemade cream cheese frosting and vanilla candy coating, as I've decided this year is my year to make boxes of handmade candy for gifts. Also made Alton's sugarplums, and they were special, too.
About Me
I'm a science head, gadget freak and young retired physician. I LOVE Alton Brown, Ina Garten, Tyler Florence and Giada deLaurentiis! I'm not a recipe cook--I prefer to either compare a number of recipes and then "do my own thing" or improvise based on some educated choices. Had problems finding someone I could learn from until I watched Alton Brown; he helps me understand the science and get out of tough spots my experimentation gets me into. Then Ina, Tyler and Giada help me add the finesse and elegance. Also, by comparing how different bakers make similar items, I learned that baking ISN'T the exact science it's rumored to be--that's freeing!
