About Me

I am a foodie.  Went to school in Houston for pastry chef lessons, and loved it!  But mostly enjoy learning everyone else's recipes and then combining several together to make interesting new creations.  Not everything is available, like in the States, so cooking can be interesting.  But, overall, life is a journey, so gotta roll with it.  Love these food blogs, as a means of seeing what others come up with, and sharing some of my own trials and successes.

Since Java was originally a spice island, much is available to cook with in the spice category, and many locals have excellent ideas of how to use them for many sauces and to just spice up otherwise plain foods.  I enjoy learning from the locals, then incorporating these ideas into my own style of cooking.  What I find annoying, is mostly that some baking products are just not available here, or you must try to substitute (which is tricky sometimes).  I've been here going on four years, and the learning never stops.
