Great flavors!. I used a brownie mix and added a couple of handfuls of chocolate chips. I also substituted coarse salt and loved the contrast and texturesI made them a couple of days ahead of time and think that really gives the flavors a chance to meld. This has become a family favorite and a Christmas tradition! I add a bit more pepper and spice and let it cook low and slow until almost time to eat. Then, if necessary, I use a thickener. A flour roux, cornstarch or some such thing. Being a stew, it lends itself well to variations and as was mentioned earlier, there is never enough leftovers!

I've gotten many compliments on this recipe. I would like a more earthy flavor. It is a bit sweet for my tastes. I will try some of the suggested alterations and see how they appeal.

love love LOVE this! I had a similar jam at a restaurant as an appetizer with goat cheese. Next time I will look for smaller jars. I'd hate to have any of it go to waste!
