We are from Texas. We have tried every great Mexican restaurant possible. This sauce cannot be beat. Our family of 4 will finish in one week. It's addictive! I'm thinking of making it to give away at Christmas. Great job, Ree! To lessen the heat, leave out membranes and seeds, or cut in half. Whew!

My husband thinks this is one of the best soups I have ever made. We truly loved this. I cut the sugar and ketchup in half, just to save calories, but it really was perfect. I used hemp seeds (about 1/2 cup) in place of rice. This is over the top delicious. It will remind you of abondigas/tapas and pairs well with a dry red wine.
