Reviewed 1770 House Meatloaf

"Wow. I like meat loaf. My family does not. This is the first time we ALL liked it.... and I think it was the lack of ketchup!!! I didn't do the garlic sauce.... the herbs & veggies + the mixture of meats + salt & pepper (I thought it was going to be too much... but it wasn't)... the panko panade....just everything came together to make a simpl"

Reviewed Creme Brulee

"First time making creme brulee...last night for Valentine's Day. Wow... Don't know why I was ever intimidated to make this! Very easy!! Not fussy at all!! A couple of things... I don't know what size ramekins I used... but all the mixture fit snuggly into 4 of them. I wasn't sure if they were too full or not. So I will measure those in the fu"

Reviewed Bacon-Wrapped Filet

"Very easy, very good. Made for Valentine's Day... easy to do on the stove/oven...didn't want to run between grill & stove for all the other dishes. Will make again, but need to probably brown the sides of the steak to cook the bacon a tiny bit more..."

Reviewed Calzones Stuffed with Broccoli Rabe and Sausage

"I can only fairly rate this on the filling... and directions for assembling & baking.... I am a pizza dough chicken... and decided to use my tried & true recipe off the back of a package of "pizza yeast." We absolutely LOVED these.... made them for my kids.... one of whom refuses to try anything new or green without putting up a huge fight. The "

Reviewed Chicken Quesadillas

"Quick & easy for one of my budding cooks at home to make. We just made one very large chicken breast for the 3 of us (almost a pound... and adjusted veggies by 1/2...& used a homemade taco spice mix. This made 4 small sized quesadillas... I chopped the chicken & veggies smaller because of the size of the tortillas we had on hand... It took longe"

Reviewed Guava Cheese Turnovers (Guava Pastelillos

"Wow. WOW. Having moved away from south FL nearly 10 years ago, this is probably one of the things I've missed the most. I do not recall having had powdered sugar icing drizzled over the top from the Cuban bakeries, so I skipped that step. I did throw a sprinkle of turbanado sugar on top before baking. I just opened the dough flat onto a boar"

Reviewed Perfect Pot Roast

"Unbelievably delish. I didn't use wine (decided to drink that cup or so that remained in the bottle) and cracked open a 32 oz carton of broth instead. Worked like a charm. I have never made a pot roast that has come out like this... I threw in a couple of sad looking parsnips I had hiding in the fridge... I even had the fresh herbs lying around""

About Me

I'm a SAHM to 2 wonderful kids, ages almost 13 and just turned 10. My husband is a Marine and we live in northern VA. We live a ways out from town so it is hassle to schlep in on a whim, so as a result so I cook at home most days while going out is reserved for Saturday night and we order in on Sunday.  And as a result of all this cooking, I have a good time trying to recreate dishes from our favorite restaurants, baking breads and other treats we are too lazy to drive into town for!

Favorite Foods

I try to keep sugar low for my husband... as well as salt and fat for all of us... I do a lot of subbing of splenda for sugar... not always successful... but worth a shot at least once! My husband is pretty much meat and veggies, the kids like the same, plus starches... and I would eat Mexican, Thai, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Italian, Chinese... 7 days a week if I could. :)
