Reviewed Thanksgiving Turkey Brine

I gave it two stars cause there were areas that were good but over all the turkey was salty especially the dark meat...what did I do wrong? I measured everything carefully...made sure the salt was dissolved completely. It sat in the brine overnight. I smoked the turkey instead of roasting...did that make the difference?
