"The 9 by 13 inch pan spread them too thin. I think I would go with a smaller plan if I made them again.
"Since there are two long waits, it couldn't hurt to do some of the steps the night before. We had fun smashing candy canes with a hammer, and getting our hands messy while mixing it into the dough. We had no problems, aside from our cookies being nowhere near as attractive as the picture. Only make this for people who like peppermint a lot.

"I was pleased with how easy these good quality cookies were to make. I forgot to read the part about chilling for 2 hours, so mine only got 1 hour and 15 minutes before I had to cook them for company. They still turned out great. I have a batch in the oven now that I let sit in the fridge overnight, so I wouldn't make the same mistake today. Maybe they'll be even better :).
