Reviewed Baked Macaroni and Cheese
"Not the simplest mac and cheese recipe ever but worth the extra effort. Very smooth and tasty! Of course I can never leave well enough alone; I added a teaspoon of garlic powder, and I finely minced up some broccoli crowns and stirred in halfway through the simmering portion of the process, to hide some veggies in there! Great recipe, Alton does it again!
Reviewed Golden Pound Cake
"I've made this pound cake many times and it is my go-to pound cake recipe. Absolutely wonderful!! The lemon and orange zest are NOT strong enough to make it taste strongly of citrus, if you want a really lemon or citrus flavored cake, use more zest or add some lemon or orange extract.
It's critical to follow the directions to the letter- room temperature eggs and butter, real butter, NOT margarine. Follow the mixing directions carefully.
This cake is sinfully delicious. I am not a fan of Guy Fieri in general but man this recipe is good!
I never have made the glaze in this recipe- the cake is so good just plain that we eat it plain! Or we make strawberry shortcake out of it...
Reviewed The Oatiest Oatmeal Cookies Ever
"I also had trouble- my cookies turned into puddles. They tasted ok, but definitely not up to AB's usual standards.
I did notice that my batter looked softer than the batter he made on the show, so maybe there is an error in the recipe. If I try these again I will use only 8 oz of butter and one small egg (or a bantam egg!) and refrigerate the batter before baking. They would be better with some coconut and/or nuts added in, too.
Reviewed Balsamic Chicken Drumettes
"WOW these are great!! We make the marinade and cook it down as a dipping sauce to use on all kinds of chicken and pork. I actually prefer to bake my chicken first (not marinated), then baste the chicken with the cooked-down sauce when there are a few minutes of cooking left, to keep the marinade from burning.
Reviewed Soda Bread
"The directions are wrong, they tell you to cook the bread for too short a time. After following the directions to the letter, the middle of the bread was undercooked, needed at least another 10 minutes of bake time. (and on the show, the baking directions Claire quotes are NOT the directions given on the recipe). Aside from that, this is a very basic and bland bread that really needs a little something more to give it flavor. A bit of honey would probably do the trick, and I thought it needed more salt as well. Overall it was OK but I will probably not bother making it again.
