Reviewed Tres Leche Cake

May 20, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Love Alton's recipes but this one missed the bar in a few places. The cake was a bit too dense and it way too sweet even after using half of the sugar in the frosting. Maybe beating the egg whites to make a fluffier cake and cutting the sugar in the cake as well. I added cinnamon which added a great flavor. Not the best Tres Leche cake I've ha"

Perfect for the chocolate lover but a little decadent for the average dessert goer. I added a tablespoon of instant expresso to the batter to enhance the chocolate flavor and since I had extra coconut and pecans left over from christmas baking I threw that on top (minus the peanuts). The brownie recipe is spot on, easy and very delicious. ""

Really good recipe but I had to give it only four stars for the sheer fact it lacked potatoes! I cut the recipe in half and added 1 cup of potatoes and it easily made four individual pot pies."

This was my first time making quinoa and I loved the grain but the recipe is just ok. First I'm glad I cut it in half because I still ended up with four nice sized portions. My biggest complaint about the recipe is too much lemon and I didn't even add the lemon peel. I think it would be a really great, simple recipe minus about 1/4 cup of lemon"

This was by far the best strawberry rhubarb pie I've ever made/had. The flavors were perfect together. I did omit the top pie crust and make my own crumb topping but the filling is a must try!"

Reviewed Churros With Coconut Sauce

May 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

The sauce was very tasty but a bit gooey. The dough came out good but didn't taste like the traditional churros I've had. Good, but I'm going to keep searching for a great churro recipe. Foodnetwork seems to be lacking when it comes to Mexican recipes."

Easy recipe that tastes great. I thought the times were spot on unlike some of the other readers, however, I used a oval stock pot which may have made the difference. I also only used 6 T. of butter instead of 8 T. (trying to cut down on calories/fat) which worked out great. I even probably could've cut out 2 more and not lost much flavor.
