Reviewed Grandma Yearwood's Coconut Cake with Coconut Lemon Glaze

Jul 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I went to a barbecue and someone brought this cake - I had to have the recipe after having a few slices of it! After telling me about where she got the recipe, the lady kept telling me how easy the recipe is. Easy and delicious? I'm all over that one!"

Reviewed Stir-Fried Beef and Broccoli

May 20, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I asked a coworker, who cooks traditional Chinese food, what black Chinese vinegar was. Not only did she explain that it is slightly sweet and tangy...but she was kind enough to bring me a small container of it. That being said, the recipe was flavorful, but next time I will lightly salt my beef before dredging in the cornstarch. I served with br"

Reviewed Chicken and Smoked Sausage Gumbo with White Rice

May 7, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I messed up and added the green onions and file powder at the same time as the other seasonings - but it was still GREAT! We're not pork eaters, so I used smoked turkey sausage, and I added shrimp at the very end of cooking....this had great flavor. I made brown rice instead of white - I haven't eaten white rice in years..."

Reviewed Spicy Strata

Apr 29, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I wasn't sure what to expect - I'd never eaten strata before. I forgot to rinse off the jalapenos, and I didn't add cilantro to the mix - my husband doesn't like cilantro. This came out great...I will definitely make this again! Since I love cilantro, I added it as a garnish for my serving, along with nonfat plain Greek yogurt instead of sour crea"

Reviewed Mummy Boome's Traditional Shepherds Pie

Apr 29, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This came out really good. Unfortunately, I chose this as the time to try my new food processor - so my carrots were shredded instead of chopped. And, like another reveiwer, I mashed the potatoes with the skins on. "

Reviewed Banana Muffins with Mascarpone Cream Frosting

Apr 25, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I couldn't find mascarpone to make the I just used cream cheese. When I was pouring the oil, I thought 1 cup seemed a bit much - but not so -the muffins come out fluffy and moist! The cinnamon and nutmeg flavors make the muffins excellent! "

Reviewed Double Blueberry Muffins

Apr 23, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

These came out very good. I normally don't like blueberry muffins, but since my husband does, I wanted to find a good recipe. I started assembling the ingredients - when GASP! I only had whole wheat flour! Whole wheat typically takes a little longer to bake, but the recipe still came out perfect with me only adding 5 mins cooking time - and the mu"

Reviewed Baked French Toast Casserole with Maple Syrup

Apr 15, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This was very good. I bought my bread from a local farmer's market and the baker is French. I became a little self-conscious asking him which bread I could use for my french toast recipe, and pointed to a very hearty and delish smelling loaf. I was nervous because it was so soft and not like "french bread"...but it worked wonderful! I did not atte"

Reviewed Wonderland Custom Cakes

Apr 12, 2013 in FN On the Road Reviews on

Although the cupcakes are a little smaller than some of the more famous cupcakeries, the flavor packed into them makes up for it. I normally do not like vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting, but the cake was moist. The icing was smooth - not cloyingly sweet or weird greasy finish. High quality ingredients are obvious in their products."

Reviewed Yummy Cupcakes

Apr 12, 2013 in FN On the Road Reviews on

I used to like this place. But, once their popularity took off, their customer service took a nose dive and their cupcake portions shrunk. I haven't returned in 3 yrs."

For some reason this place is popular, but the sandwich I had was dry and bland."

Reviewed Brent's Delicatessen and Restaurant

Apr 12, 2013 in FN On the Road Reviews on

I really enjoy Brent's everytime we go. Even though it's always crowded, the food makes up for it. In La there are so many restraunt letdowns when it comes to portion size and taste, that Brent's is a very welcome treat - which explains why it's always packed."
