My Activity

Reviewed Cranberry Sauce

"My dad and I are the only ones in my family that like cranberry sauce, and we both give this recipe a BIG thumbs up. I'm not sure where I went wrong, but mine didn't set up like it was supposed to. Might be that I used a high-quality, not-from-concentrate prepared orange juice rather than freshly-squeezed. This time of year, it's really hard to find tasty oranges where I'm from. But it tasted absolutely wonderful! I made it for Thanksgiving, and it was the one request from my father for Christmas this year. It just might be our new tradition. I might try a batch with some raspberries or pomegranate arils for my mom. Even with all the honey, this recipe was too tart for her.

Reviewed Butter Toffee

"I think the color of the toffee in the picture, as well as the use of brown sugar, should have been a tip-off about this particular recipe. I ended up with a pan of packed sugar. I followed the directions exactly as they were written. I also did not like the flavor. The molasses in the brown sugar was just too prevalent.

Reviewed English Toffee

"I tried this recipe three times, and neither of the first two turned out well. I think there's something missing from the directions. The first batch didn't harden. The second separated when I put in the pecans. Neither was very appealing. I had to throw the second one down the garbage disposal. All in all, I was not pleased.

After reading some other reviews and watching the video, I gave it another try. So far, so good. It' still setting up, and it doesn't seem quite as hard as it should be, but it's much better than either of the first two attempts. I do have to make it one more time, as this one batch isn't enough to cover the gifts I want to give, so I'm going to let it cook just a little longer to let the candy get a little firmer.

About Me

I'm a newly-wed in my late-20's and I love to cook...when I'm in the mood for it.    When I'm not, I love to watch the FoodNetwork.  I'm a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist in my home state and when I'm not working, I like to play video games with my husband, play with my dog and 3 cats, and dig around in the cupboards for something I can turn into a tasty treat.

Favorite Foods

My favorite dishes to cook are my Buffalo Chili, Spicy Chicken Spaghetti, Chicken Fajitas, and anything for the holidays.  I also love to bake cookies, even if my gluten intolerance makes it hard to eat them...

My major chain restaurant is P.F. Chang.  I love Sushisamba at the Palazzo and B&B Ristorante at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
