I used self-rising flour and eliminated the salt and baking soda. I had trouble getting the batter to adhere to itself in the fryer plus it would stick to the fryer basket. My second batch I added 1/2 cup more self-rising flour and an additional tablespoon of sugar. I forgot to add the butter. However, with these changes it adhered to itself ...
