Reviewed almost-famous chicken sandwiches

5 days ago on FoodNetwork.com

I dusted my chicken with flour before dipping it into the milk/egg mixture, so the breading adhered perfectly, and these sandwiches were fine, although they had an odd hint of sweetness, but I don't think they tasted anything like Chick-Fil-A. I'll stick with the original.

Reviewed chipotle-braised chicken tacos

5 days ago on FoodNetwork.com

I love these tacos!!! I followed the recipe to the letter, making no substitutions at all except that I fried the tortillas just long enough to soften them rather than frying them crisp. That was to accommodate a person in the family who wears braces, but the tacos would have been even better on the crisp shells called for here. I've learned never...

Reviewed Good Eats Roast Turkey

Nov 26, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Perfection!! I don't know why I was scared to try this. I have prepared Thanksgiving dinner for the last 18 years or so, and my turkeys always turned out fine, no problems, so why rock the boat? I found my answer. I followed Alton's recipe exactly, and the results blew me away! This turkey was so beautiful, we did a photo shoot before we carv"

Reviewed Salad of Mesclun Greens with Dried Cranberries, Mascarpone Dumplings and Champagne Vinaigrette

May 8, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I love this salad!! It is elegant enough for the most fancy occasions, yet so scrumptious and easy, I could eat it every day--well, that is, if I could get my hands on some leftover champagne every day. Top the salad with toasted pecans; you won't regret it."

Oct 28, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I hate this recipe!!! It ruined 3 holidays for me! I know that it was stupid on my part, but I was so determined that this well-reviewed recipe would have to work eventually that, even though it was dis-freaking-gusting the first time, I made it two other times, cutting back the stock more and more. It never turns out like anything except mush...

Reviewed Almost-Famous Breadsticks

Oct 21, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This isn't a good recipe. The outside seasoning for the breadstick is fine, but the bread itself has a poor texture. I've been working with yeast doughs for 30 years--my mom started me early--and I bake bread a minimum of once a week, so it is saying something that this is one of the worst recipes I've tried, but it is. This is so absolutely delectable, no words could do it justice. No diet stands a chance with this hot fudge around. Do cook it until thickened. Mine took several minutes longer than suggested in the recipe.""

Reviewed Coconut Rice and Peas

Oct 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I liked this! Once the liquid boiled, I cooked the rice for 10 minutes uncovered and then 10 minutes covered. I've never had basmati in a pilaf-type preparation, but it was great. It needed about 3/4 teaspoon of salt, using a low-sodium (homemade) stock.""

Reviewed Almost-Famous Cheddar Biscuits

Aug 25, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Wow! These are amazing. I've never in my life been to RL because I don't eat fish, but I have heard raves about the biscuits, so I wanted to try them at home. The crazy amount of baking powder in this recipe really works. The biscuits were practically floating off the plate! The only change I made was to use salted butter rather than unsalted,...

I've owned an ice cream maker for several years, and I've tried any number of recipes, but I hadn't found a single one that I was satisfied with until now. This ice cream has the perfect smooth and creamy texture, and the taste is so delicious it's dangerous because I don't want to stop eating it. I like it much better than store-bought ice cre...

I love this recipe! The pitas always turn out perfectly, and they are delicious. The other recipe I had for pita was such a pain that I would rarely bother with it, but since this one is so easy, I make it a couple of times each month.""

Reviewed Coleslaw with Cumin-Lime Vinaigrette

Aug 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is exactly what I was looking for. I love this coleslaw. I did change one part of the process. I salted the shredded cabbage first, let it drain for a couple hours, and then patted it dry. I do that with every slaw to keep it from being watery. I had to add 2 T of honey like other reviewers suggested, and then this was perfect on top of...

Reviewed Pulled Pork with Mango BBQ Sauce

Aug 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Delicious! I can't imagine why anyone would call this sweet because mine didn't even have a slight hint of sweetness. It was vaguely sour from the lime juice and a little spicy--of course the spicy came from me including the serrano seeds and adding a bit of sriracha--but mostly just savory. Maybe the mangoes I pureed weren't as sweet as some ...

Reviewed Hummus For Real

Aug 4, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Fab-u-lous! Since the hummus only needs half a recipe of the chickpeas, I only made half a recipe, so I didn't need to worry about dividing it later. I toasted and ground a teaspoon of cumin seeds and added it to the hummus along with a pinch of cayenne. To me, if hummus doesn't have cumin, what's the point? Otherwise, I prepared it just as d...

Jul 28, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Yuk! Yuk! Yuk! I hate, hate, hated this! Making and filling my own dough, I had high expectations, but thanks to this filling recipe, my hours of toil went for nothing. While I do like every ingredient in it, and used very good prosciutto and very good Marsala, the taste all together wasn't great, and the texture was nothing short of revolting: cr"

Jul 24, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

These are delicious! The only change I made was to double the amount of crust, and I'm very glad I did because, even doubled, it was barely thick enough for my taste. Though I made my bars in the right sized pan for the minimum suggested time, the cheesecake did crack in a few places, but the texture was still silky and lush. The amount of lemo"

I was so glad to find this recipe because I hate baked fries. I made it exactly as written, except that my final frying took considerable longer than 1 min., more like 5 min., to get the sweet potatoes crispy. I really loved the results, but I was alone in that opinion. They weren't much of a crowd-pleaser. In fact, at my 4th of July bbq, ever"

I think there are a couple of errors in this recipe. I followed it as written, and I had 2 problems. SO delicious! I did use the skinless breasts, which I pounded and rolled up with the filling, using twine to secure the roulades. I browned the breasts and then baked them for about 30 min. The chicken was very good, but the beurre blanc was the real star. I used a stainless steel skillet for the sauce so it reduced more quickly, having more s"

Perfect!! I've made basmati rice about 5 times before, using package directions and a couple of other recipes, but it never turned out like this. It must be the soaking that makes the difference. WARNING: This is an excellent recipe with a terrible typo. Don't even think about using 4 cups of flour in this recipe. I followed that direction on my first attempt, and it was a disaster. Instead of a dough, it was just a pile of dry meal. Gnocchi should have as little flour as possible. Use no more than 2 cups of flour, and you will love...

Reviewed Champagne Peach and Mint Soup

Feb 15, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is an excellent recipe. It is designed to be eaten in small doses, which is good, because it is pretty intense. I tasted just after cooking, and found I needed to add sugar to my soup, but then my peaches weren't sweet, since it is winter and they don't sell them very ripe at this time of year. The flavors mellowed out and got better after...
