Reviewed cold cucumber soup

Jun 16, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

Thankfully I used only one jalapeno instead of 2, as was called for. It was SOO SPICY! I like spice, but this couldn't be served to my family because of the overwhelming heat. From what I could tell I followed this recipe to the letter and just felt it fell flat. It just wasn't great. Extremely time consuming and not worth the effort. Unfortunately...

Reviewed shrimp-pineapple skewers

Apr 21, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

This really didn't work out at all. Given the bold flavors in the marinade, I really expected these to pack a punch. Not so. I barely tasted the marinade and the shrimp definitely was mushy. The bacon didn't crisp up well and the whole thing did not stay together on the skewers. I served them for Easter brunch anyway and people did eat them......

Reviewed fruit salad with orange-vanilla syrup

Apr 21, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

This was pretty good. I didn't use an actual vanilla bean, but used pure vanilla extract. I don't know if that changed the outcome, but it was very sweet. I made this for Easter brunch and although people ate it, I don't think it stood out as anything spectacular.

Reviewed roast chicken with spring vegetables

Mar 24, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

Very tasty! I've never tried an oven roasted radish before. Not bad! The chicken was delicious... I added other assorted veggies like onion, mushroom and summer squash. My husband loved it! This made for a great presentation and the dill added a wonderful fresh flavor. I wanted to taste the lemon a bit more than I did but overall this was great....

This is a very quick, simple and DELICIOUS solution to mid-week meals. My 10 year old son and my husband devoured it and my husband made the comment that he'd serve this to guests! This literally took 20 minutes from grocery bag to table (and that's because I made rice and canned bisquits with it!) This definitely will go in my regular meal rotation....

Reviewed Foolproof Standing Rib Roast

Dec 24, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I was hesitant to try this method of cooking, as I felt it couldn't possibly be as "foolproof" as it is described... shutting the oven off/turning it back on... Well, this was the greatest roast I have ever made!!! My husband has deemed me the official "roast cooker" from now on. This came out perfectly medium rare throughout. I followed the instructions...

Reviewed Gingerbread Cupcakes with Orange Icing

Nov 30, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I know I probably can't rate a recipe that I have modified... but I am going to anyway. I followed the recipe that liiz posted and I believe without the eggs they would be like bricks. I felt they still came out the consistency of a muffin, so I called them "Gingerbread muffins" when serving them. There was no mistaking the gingerbread flavor and...

Reviewed Roasted Butternut Squash Soup and Curry Condiments

Nov 11, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I think for butternut squash soup, this is among the best. I only had one onion on hand and that seemed to work out fine. Other than that I didn't alter the recipe at all. I did add a dollop of sour cream when serving it though. Surprisingly, the diced bananas were essential to this dish. I thought they would stand out and not pair well. Not...

This dip was tasty but way too heavy and greasy. One or two bites of this dip and I was sick of it.

Reviewed Garlic-Studded Pot Roast

Nov 11, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

What have I done??? I had just over a 3 lb roast so I took that into consideration when timing this dish. I cooked it for a total of 2 hours and it came out tasting and looking like leather... It was a huge waste of time and money. The au jus was pretty tasty though after skimming the fat oil... but I destroyed this to the point it's unlikely I'll...

Reviewed Swiss and Bacon Dip

Nov 11, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

This dip tastes good but is extremely heavy and greasy. One or two tastes and you're worn out on this dish. I'm glad I tested this before Thanksgiving because I feel it's way too heavy as a prelude to a huge Thanksgiving meal. I didn't have pumpernickel bread squares and think that would improve the overall flavor and absorb some of the grease....

Reviewed Penne with Braised Short Ribs

Feb 15, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I took Giada's recipe and made a few tweaks to it.. I used a chuck roast instead of short ribs.. I cooked this in a slow cooker. I started with a can of cream of onion soup, along with the onion, mustard, garlic, roma tomatoes, wine (shiraz is all I had), tomato paste and I added a bit of tomato sauce. I simmered it for a few hours and tasted it"

This was ok but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of overall flavor. I would have expected more for all of the ingredients and seasonings. Not sure the gouda worked with this either. My husband loved it though.. If I do this again I may make some changes.. The mushroom mixture is a must though!"

This is my first ever negative review. I love Giada and I typically search for HER recipes specifically. This was horrible. Granted, I may have done something wrong, but as far as I know, I followed this recipe word for word. The ladyfingers were mush (and I know it said to dip them quickly) and 1 1/2 cups espresso made them taste bitter and c"

This is a fantastic cookie for your Christmas assortment. I was apprehensive at first because of the stigma associated with fruitcake. I was pleasantly surprised that they turned out fantastic. Reviewed Penne with Butternut Squash and Goat Cheese

Nov 11, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I love the combination of flavors in this dish! I was surprised to hear that using simply pasta water and goat cheese would make a creamy and tasty sauce. I opted to use chicken broth instead. I'm not sure if it made the sauce better, but it was delicious. I do think it could use more sauce overall. It was a bit dry. I might not have used en"
