Reviewed cookies-and-cream cake

Apr 18, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

I made my own cake from a different recipe. The frosting was delicious and very easy to pipe. I embelished my cake with piping around top and bottom and added Oreo cookie quarters to the piped decoration. Even with that there was way too much frosting. I froze the remainder for another time.

These are fantastic! There is a video of this, just search for it. Alton tells you in the video why you have to cook low and slow. Higher temperature will toughen the ribs. I had to cook mine for 3 hours because they were so meaty.

This was good. We did not find it bitter at all. The recipe does call for SWEET onions. Maybe those who found it bitter used regular onions. You can never tell how long it will take to caramelize onions. Mine took an hour! Just make sure you leave yourself plenty of time.

Cooking is my passion so I was diappointed that the rice came out soggy. This is the first time I have made red beans and rice so maybe that is how it is supposed to be. That said I did not use my rice cooker so I could have used a little too much chicken stock. Next time I will cook the rice in my rice cooker. The dish had excellent flavor. It was...

This was amazing. I did brown the venison in some olive oil as even with a nonstick pan it sticks. Also hard to saute onions and peppers dry, some oil was definitely needed. I could not find any anasazi beans so I used ready cooked canned red beans. I have a question, were the beans you used dried and soaked overnight? Canned beans would likely h...

Nov 19, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I love green beans but I did not like this casserole. I am a very experienced home cook but even Wonder Woman could not make this casseole in the time suggested. I used butter with the flour to make the sauce, a traditional Bechamel sauce, rather than flour and milk as suggested. The dish looked beautiful but had very little taste. Maybe if the green...

This is excellent. My husband wanted to get a straw and slurp it up. I pointed out to him that it was too thick for a straw! My sauce was not watery at all. I followed the recipe exactly, well almost, I did not skin the tomatoes. I think because I used a very wide pan (13" diameter) more liquid evaporated. My food processor did a great job. Do not...

This was excellent! I did not have any peppers so I increased the amount of eggplant as I had a lot. I also increased the amount of onion and used scallions as I aslo had a lot of these from my CSA. I really liked the taste the tomato paste gave it. Such a creamy spread without cream. I was eating it with a spoon it was so good."

This was excellent. I added some black beans to it too. I decreased the amount of chili powder as I buy mine at an Indian market and it is very strong. Even so it was VERY spicy hot so I toned it down with some sour cream. This completely changed the color which is why I added the black beans."

This soup is delicious. Saltiness is a matter of preference. I used much less than asked for in the recipe. As one other reviwer mentioned, salt can always be added but not removed. I was served this soup with the shrimp at a cooking class. I really don't see the need for the shrimp, the soup is robust enough on it's own."
