My Activity

Reviewed Gingerbread House

"I googled Beatrice Ojakangas and found the food network recipe on a few sites, but then I found the real recipe. Here it is. I am sure that 1/2 c of water would have made a big difference.

1 cup butter, room temperature [226g]
1 cup brown sugar, well packed [220g]
2 tablespoons cinnamon
4 teaspoons ground ginger
3 teaspoons ground cloves
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup boiling water
5 cups all-purpose flour [875g]

The directions are still the same

Reviewed Gingerbread House

"I did not read any reviews before making this recipe and now that I have... I'm wondering why I'm the only one to mention a little problem. My daughter and I followed the recipe exactly... when we got to the end we did not have a stiff dough, but rather a dry, crumbly mixture. I read the recipe over again and decided that there had to be a type o... someone had forgotten to add an egg. Once we added an egg, the mixture was perfect and the pieces rolled out, and cooked wonderfully. We also tried doubling the recipe (worked fine, added 2 eggs) but when we tried to triple the recipe (we did not use the templates, but were making a replica of our house) and added 3 eggs... it was way to soft. We added about 1 cup or so more flour and it worked fine, but next time I would only add 2 eggs.
