My family inspires me to cook. My paternal grandfather was a dental surgeon who hunted for sport, but ate everything he caught.Haunches of roasted game are in my DNA. My maternal grandmother was a Pennsylvania dutch wiccan, woods woman and healer. She believed in the healing power of comfort food cooked with love, and wild-crafting everything you can. My parents fell in love with Hawaii in 1965, so we've immersed ourselves in local cooking, gathering and flavors also.
I was a vegan for about 7 years, and am very good at savory, center-of-the-plate fare made strictly with vegetables. I also make a mean poke, ceviche, and adore raw fish in almost any form. One of my favorite dishes is "dinde au vin" - a version of coq au vin made with turkey.
