Reviewed Pot Roast

Feb 17, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I have been looking for a recipe for pot roast that wasn't bland, and this is it. I think next time I will add more water and maybe less bouillon, only for my family's tastes. Also, be careful not to add too much oil when browning. I think 1 hour of cooking time per pound is plenty. I may fuse this recipe with Sandra Lee's slow cooker pot roas"

While the texture and color were right on, and the chicken was very juicy, it was very bland. Next time I will season the chicken, buttermilk, and cornflake crumbs with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

My mother has been making these for years! She has only done it with brown sugar, no cheese. Everywhere she goes, people rave about them. She even brings them for brunches, parties, whatever. Yes, the grease and sugar carmelizes the cracker, but that is how it is supposed to be."

Very easy and tasty. I may either subtract the mustard, or subtract a little of the wine and use chicken stock in its place next time. Also, 29 minutes was the absolute perfect cooking time in my oven. I may stop using other harder pot pie recipes altogether."

I must say, Ina has never steered me wrong. She is a little too fond of citrus for our tastes though, so I took others' advice and left out the zest, and cut the lemon juice in half, and I was glad I did. I also used granny smith apples and regular old pears. Even my 7 year old , who hates everything, asked for seconds, even after eating a big "

I just found my new go-to "white" chili recipe! I did change a few things however. I used ground chicken instead of turkey, a small can of green chiles, drained, instead of roasting the peppers, and a packet of ranch dressing mix (like others have said instead of the herbs. Delicious!
