Reviewed grilled smashed potatoes with toasted cumin vinaigrette

"Smashed" means many different things. I thought it meant to use a glass to kind of flatten the potatoes a bit but that did not work. Ended up just cutting them in chunks and grilling on a pan with holes. Can anyone help with how these should be "smashed"?

This is an awesome recipe because the cheese is not lost in the breading. In addition, you can use super thick boneless chops or the thinner bone-in chops and get great results. BTW, use a non-stick pan and cut the oil by half.
