Reviewed The Ultimate Beef Wellington

Dec 26, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This was the best beef recipe I have ever made!! There were so many levels of flavor. My family raved about it Of course, the quality of the beef had something to do with it. I learned from Julia Childs' instructions for duxelles to squeeze the chopped mushrooms in a dish towel to remove all of the moisture. This really cuts the time cooki"

Reviewed Classic Hot Wings

Oct 10, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Actually, I would give this a 10 star!! These were the best wings I have ever had! They were so so moist and tender and the heat was just right. While making the sauce and tasting, it was very vine vinegary and I thought of adding honey or agava to balance, but decided to follow the recipe. I think baking it in the sauce was the key to these d"

Reviewed Super Yummy Chocolate Chunk Oatmeal Cookies

Aug 17, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

AWESOME!! I made these today for a neighbor who is having lots of friends and family in this week. These cookies were really a hit! I gave some to my daughter and she ate them all! The recipe was very easy and made about 40 cookies. The changes I made were I only had only 1 1/2 cups flour, so I made the rest up with oatmeal which helped the t"

Reviewed Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread

I made this recipe for Easter and everyone raved about it! It was a perfect with gazed baked ham. I loved the texture being more bread like. The cornmeal did not overpower the cheese and jalapeno, yet still provided the corn flavor. Thank you Ina. I never miss your shows..""

Reviewed Corn Pudding

Apr 11, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Awesome! I served this for Easter and my guests are still talking about it. I did not have Havarti cheese, so substituted smoked gruyere, which provided a very mild smokey flavor, which went well with ham. I ,also, substituted roasted red bell pepper for the poblano. My only complaint was the bacon softened when baking. When I make this aga...

Reviewed Lentil Quinoa Salad

Mar 10, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This dish did not work for me. The lentils cooked for an hour and still were more than al dente. Two scallions were definitely not enough. Like some other reviewers I added one rib of celery and 1/3 red bell pepper finely diced to add color and crunch, which probably was not necessary as the grains were crunchy. I also think finely minced gar...

Reviewed French Onion Soup

Mar 10, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is a wonderful recipe. It does require quite a bit of time, but worth it! Once the onions start to brown, you have stir frequently to prevent burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan. I have always made French onion soup with beef stock and cognac and vermouth which makes it somewhat richer. But this was light and full flavored. Als...

Reviewed Bourbon Pecan Pie: aka Douglas' Dark Rum Pecan Pie

Mar 7, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Lawrence, KS is in Douglas County and there used to be a restaurant, Paradise Cafe, that made a most wonderful Douglas County pie. When I saw this recipe, I couldn't wait to make it to surprise my daughter and son in law who really miss the restaurant and the pie. Their pie contained chocolate so I added 1 cup of mini bittersweet chocolate chi...

Reviewed Honey-Mustard Pork Roast with Bacon

Dec 4, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This was the most delicious pork I ever ate!! The glaze and bacon kept it so moist and tender, My pork roast was only 2.5 lbs. and it took as long as Giada's 3.5 lb. roast did to get to temperature. I will certainly keep this recipe in my collection of favorites.""

Reviewed Rum Raisin Rice Pudding

Dec 4, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

What an amazing rice pudding!!! I didn't have rum, so I used Jack Daniels. It was outstanding. I was amazed at how creamy and rich this pudding was, especially, with all the liquid used, but it surely worked.
I watch Ina at least 2 times a day and have most of her shows memorized. ""

These were some of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted!! The coffee really did enhance the flavor, intensifying the bitterness of the chocolate. They were still moist after 3 days. Also, they were so easy to make. A winner in my book!!
