Reviewed black bean brownies

Jun 22, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

These always disappear quickly when I make them for company or take them to work, and I frequently am asked for the recipe. They have a fudgy flavor and are not dry, and the coffee adds a little extra to the flavor. You can't tell the beans are in them! So quick and easy to make. I am so glad Food Network is using Melissa's talents in other ways,...

VERY easy and quick to make, especially since company arrived 45 minutes before expected! Delicious! Everybody loved it, even picky eaters! They liked the garlic and the warmth the cumin gave it. I doubled recipe for company, but cut back about a tablespoon on lemon juice based on reviews. Used seasoned rice vinegar because I didn't have white wine...

I didn't have shallots or green onions, but tried it anyway by using some onion powder. I think the taste was fine, but would have been better with regular onions. I will definitely use this again to use up some garden cucumbers, it's a nice change from tomatoes and cucumbers."

Reviewed Lemony Egg Soup

Aug 10, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I had some leftover cooked rice from a box mix; the rest of the family didn't care for the box mix seasoning, but as Melissa says, the most expensive ingredient is the one you throw away. So I used Melissa's recipe with the leftover rice, just warming the broth as the rice really didn't need to cook. The eggs and lemon made a tasty, creamy dish, a"

Reviewed Perfect Summer Basil Burger

Jul 29, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I made the basil sauce, while my husband did his own thing with the burgers. The sauce is absolutely yummy, with the basil and garlic really shining through. It' like a sauce you'd get on a $10 burger at a restaurant, but so easy to do at home! I did substitute fat-free sour cream because we don't keep mayo in the house. "

Very easy to make, and a good sauce. I tried it twice, using 12 cloves the second time. I noticed the garlic the more I ate it, but I think the garlic I used just wasn't as flavorful. I wish we had easy access to Christopher Ranch garlic, I think they have the best. "

Reviewed Lentil Quinoa Salad

Feb 5, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I had been looking for a recipe to get my husband and son to eat lentils or quinoa. This one had both, and it got them to eat it! my husband and I liked it both warm and chilled (leftovers the second day), son did not like it chilled, thus the loss of a star. I loved the easy microwave cooking of quinoa. I did Melissa's recipe, will likely try som"

I was signing in to answer the question, sorry it's so late, but thought others might be interested. Yes, you can store it in the fridge and use it the next morning. The froth on top will need to be stirred back into the drink, but it still tastes good. Also, you can cut the recipe in half and just have an extra-large drink for yourself. My husban"

Just tried this the other day, and it's a wonderful recipe for parties! It was my first time using phyllo dough, and like others, I tore it a bit, but it doesn't matter because the layers cover up the mistakes. I thought maybe it wasn't sweet enough, like regular baklava, but my friends went back for seconds and thirds! They liked that it wasn't T"

Absolutely delicious! The whole family loved these, even though they were skeptical when they saw the ingredient list. We used frozen strawberries and their juice instead of syrup, plus the powdered sugar. With the chocolate powder and chips, these didn't need any syrup. I also gave the recipe to a friend who gave it a thumbs up. "

Very refreshing and a nice change for breakfast. I didn't have vanilla almond milk or coconut milk, so used the 2% milk we had and added some extra vanilla. I also didn't have the peaches, but did have some frozen papaya in the fridge and used that -- just to let folks know not to be afraid to try substitutes! I definitely will make this again...
