This was so good, I just had to come back to Food Network and post my review. I LOVED this recipe! It's a classic pound cake recipe with no extras. However, I do not cook with shortening at all, so I substituted it with butter. I also cut down on the sugar to 2.5 cups, as suggested, and the cake was still a little sweet. Another fantastic recipe from Alton. These dumplings are a lot of work and take a lot of time, but they are sooooooo worth it. I couldn't stop eating them! They also reheat very well -- even in the microwave. If you have the time and patience, you won't be disappointed with these dumplings.

Seriously amazing ice cream here. It is so creamy and delicious! The only thing I added, per suggestions below, is a pinch of salt. I make this ice cream regularly in the summer. I also add toasted almonds, which puts this ice cream over the top.
