Reviewed Chicken Tamale Pie

May 2, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I was unsure of this recipe. Would the spice be overpowering when combined with salsa? Would the crust be mush? No longer skeptical. Delicious dinner! I added 1 1/2 cups corn as other reviewers suggested and wouldn't make it any other way. I did not add a ton of salt to the crust, maybe it was a bit bland on it's own but combined with the filling "

Reviewed Naan: Indian Oven-Baked Flat Bread

Jan 11, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Excellent! Easy and flavorful. I've tried other naan recipes and they've ended up thick and dense. This recipe was thin, moist and delicious. The dough rose beautifully. Be sure to let your pan heat up like the recipe says or you won't get big bubbles and burnt parts. Your kitchen may get a bit smokey when cooking but it's worth it.""

Reviewed Curried Chicken and Rice Soup

Oct 26, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Just finished and I liked this - didn't love, hubby did not like it and he likes most things. Made this as directed and now have a few alterations for next time. Not sure why I followed the directions and added 1 tsp salt when I would never add that much at once but I did as the recipe stated and it was (of course) too much. Luckily, I hadn't cut...

Reviewed Sweet Potato Chowder

Oct 26, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is a fun and flavorful chowder. My modifications are similar to those noted by others. I use green chilies instead of chipolte, 1 can cream corn & 1 can sweet corn and at least 1/2 & 1/2, usually light cream. If I'm putting 1/2 lb of bacon in a soup why skimp on the cream?""

Reviewed Olive and Sun-Dried Tomato Vegetables

Huge hit with my m-i-l, aunt and cousin. Even the ones who don't like sun dried tomato liked this dish. Didn't measure the oil. I put about 2 Tbsp in the pan and added the tomatoes and olives when I turned off the burner. Also, didn't measure s&p, just put some in to taste. Super easy. Don't get crazy with measurements, just relax and this simple "

Reviewed Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with Homemade Pita Chips

Jul 19, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Really simple and delicious. Just the right amount of spices. Skipped the extra oil and parsley but it would be just as good with it. This makes 4 cups of hummus so I sent some for afternoon snack with my husband. His office mates loved it."

Reviewed Pops' Singapore Noodles

Jun 30, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is one of my favorites from our local restaurants so I was excited to try it at home. For me, this is a good recipe that I will make some changes to. 1. Boil the noodles since I like them a little softer. 2. Use only 2 packages (12 oz total) since 16 oz was too much. 3. Use 1 Tbsp madras curry and I Tbsp mild curry. I love the spice but that'"

Reviewed Wild Rice Pilaf

Mar 28, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This recipe left a bad taste in my mouth. Everything sounded great but it just didn't come together. My family and I love wild rice but this was too bland. Tried to spice it up with some herbs but that didn't even help. Save the wild rice for other recipes."

Reviewed Black Bean Salad

Jan 3, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Wonderful! Eat it alone, with tortillas or with grilled chicken and it's perfect. The flavors are great and the texture is nice too. A lot of chopping but this is worth it and it makes a lot so you won't feel all the chop time was wasted.

Reviewed Chicken, Artichoke and Cannellini Bean Spezzatino

Jan 2, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Good base, with changes it could be great. Keep the basil, forget the thyme and sage. Thyme is just overpowering and sage is too bitter. 3 cans of chicken broth and possibly 1/2 the chicken and double the beans (really love the creamy texture they bring to the soup).
Not sure what the artichoke hearts bring to the soup but I would NEVER...

Reviewed Tastes Like Lasagna Soup

Nov 20, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

This was ok but not 5 star. With all the rave reviews I expected to be knocked off my feet. The cheese becomes either clumpy in the soup or goopy and sticks to your spoon or sinks to the bottom. The crushed lasagna noodles are still too big and don't allow for a mixed bite. IF I make this again (will see how the modified leftovers are) I will put...

Reviewed Mesa Grill Potato Salad

Nov 1, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

Still warm and it's wonderful! Made this for a Mexican lunch, wasn't sure about the flavors with potato but wanted a side that was familiar and still fit with the theme. This is it! I did change a few things to fit with the other dishes but nothing substantial. Used green onions (I don't like a strong onion flavor in potato salad), a can of fire roasted...
