My Activity

Reviewed Apple, Pecan and Blue Cheese Salad

"I saw the episode featuring this recipe some months ago and copied it down for my wife. She took this salad to a supperclub group of 50s & 60s in early September. She used dried cranberries instead of cherries and mixed the spring greens with Romaine Lettuce chopped, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. RAVE REVIEWS from all there; next day "

About Me

Retired from career in medical imaging equipment service. Foodlover... favorites include Mexican/Tex-Mex, Greek, Italian, & Lowcountry.

For fun... symphony performances; a few days at Spoleto USA each year; productions at Barter Theatre, Dock Street, & Flowertown Playhouse.

Also gardening; summer nights of jasmine & gardenia in bloom while reading & enjoying WDAV or some jazz... and being "annoyed" by the outdoor felines who are curious, amusing, and so gratefully loving (semi-feral... a long story).

Some of the above might border on "passions" and the following are passions: Looking for the "me of my youth" at the Y with my New Year's resolution membership & keeping up with several missionary friends and mission activities around the world.

I have no favorite cookbook... but my wife and I when we married 40 years ago combined our collections to have well over 250 of them; we are scared to count them ever again because we used to buy one just for a recipe or two contained! Now we buy far fewer books... just remember a name and a few key ingredients, then search! (Thank goodness for the internet cooking sites!)

PET PEEVES... the ignorance (of the populace) about the dream of our nation's Founding Fathers, the total lack of understanding of what the FIRST Thanksgiving Celebration meant to the colonists & their concept of God & country coexisting and yet separate, and the abandoning the Constitution of the United States! (You ought to buy and read what is purported to be the history & heritage of the United States... any current middle or high school history textbook will do! Egads... so much revision of history!)

Favorite dishes... moussaka, lemon cream cheese pie (Kittencal), & (almost) anything Tex-Mex/Mexican.

My signature dishes I make... decadent chocolate fudge, a pecan cookie retrieved from the grave after 35 years (another long story), and iced tea.

Favorite restaurant:

Los Caracoles
Carrer dels Escudellers, 14, Barcelona, ES 08002
93-302-3185

http://www.10best.com/Barcelona,Spain/Restaurants/Spanish/17825/Los_Caracoles_Barcelona_ES/

Everything the reviews say & more... have the paella, Sangria, & especiale dessert!

Ate there 8 meals in 6 days while in Barcelona!
