Reviewed Reuben Style Casserole with Pastrami Meatballs, Sauerkraut and Barley

Nov 10, 2013 on FoodNetwork.com

I liked this casserole a lot, BUT the meatballs did not taste like patrami to me. They were very flavorful, and I really liked the combination with barley (never had it before), onions and sauerkraut. it is good, but if you are expecting it to taste like a reuben sandwich, you will be dissappointed.

Although very simple, the taste is not. The lime juice adds the perfect flavor to these otherwise simple ingredients. I thought it would need more spices/flavors to taste, good, but I was wrong. Loved this with the Chicken Suizas cake. YUM!"

This was fantastic! What a nice spin on Mexican food; not as spicy, but still very flavorful. The confetti rice is the perfect pair. Try this one, you'll love it!"

This was fantastic! The meatballs are a nice alternative for a curry dish, and the flavors are simply amazing. This would be a great dish to give to someone who thinks they don't like "curry". I think this would prove them wrong. The salad with the green mango dressing that was paired with this on the show, was also the perfect match. Thanks...

I made this recipe as written (but used 1 lb. of chorizo so I didn't have leftovers) and it was fabulous!!! I tasted the broth before simmering for 40 minutes and was a bit nervous that it would be too spicy, but by the end of the simmer it was the perfect level of spiciness. Thanks for a great recipe!!""

OMG! This is so good, and yet so simple. I modified a bit: used 1 lb each of ground sirloin and chorizo (since I LOVE chorizo. Also needed to use red pepper flakes since no fresh chiles available. This is delicious, and I'll be sending to my foodie friends. Also added can of black beans as suggested by other reviewers. More like chile that ...

This wasn't worth it to me. I had high hopes, but was very disappointed. Thanks to other reviewers who pointed out that 7 hours on high would be WAY TOO MUCH. I ended up doing 3 hours on high, 4 on low. In the end, my house smelled better than the beef tasted, even after I waited a day to eat the tacos. I don't think I'll be making these again....
