Reviewed Loaded Oatmeal Cookies
"I was looking for a few recipes to add to my recipe box, and came across this one. Just for fun I thought I would check this recipe against the Vanishing Oatmeal Cookie recipe on the Quaker Oats big tube. I love this recipe and made it for years. I slightly chill the dough, us disher to drop large scoops, and cook till very chewy. I often used Trade Joe's dried cherries instead of raisins. I have the round box top with the recipe from the last tube I opened, and brought it to the computer to compare. I was shocked to find Paula's recipe had 3X the fat, and lots less oatmeal. The quaker oats recipe is GREAT, so I will skip this one."
At 56 I have an 87 yr old mom I care for, have one son still at home and a husband to cook for every day. I am happy to have the use of the internet, and food channels to spark my love of cooking, that has had it's ups and downs. It is hard after 30 years of the work rut, then coming home to the "second job", to be enthuastic, and creative. I have not worked for the past year, and feel a renewed love of time in the kitchen. I love comfort cooking, and make everything from scratch. No processed food for us. I do some veg. gardening, fight the groundhogs, and have a large herb garden. Perrenials also are a love of mine.
