It was good. I don't like to make substitutions to recipes I haven't tried but did anyway. I only had a 3lb brisket and my wife is sensitive to red wine/vinegar (too much)...even though she likes balsamic...so after reading some reviews, I felt it would be safe to cut the vinegar in half and I did...I also only used 2 large onions and about 10oz....

I don't know what the people who are leaving negative reviews are doing wrong...if you think it's too bland add some garlic or more shallot. I just made a half batch and it was excellent. Consistency of sauce was perfect with plenty of flavor. I used 1 average shallot (about volume of 2 garlic cloves) and also a minced garlic clove and it turned...
