I made this recipe exactly as is except for I had chicken Italian sausage on hand. I didn't use the fresh herbs in the stock pot. It was pretty good! I had never tried French Onion soup before, but I saw a picture of it on a magazine and decided to give it a try. I let the onions carmalize all afternoon and then let it simmer for an hour or two to let the flavors develop, but other than that, I did the recipe as is. I served it with Small French Dip sandwiches, and it was delicious!!! ""
