Reviewed Broccoli and Rice Pilaf

Jun 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Excellent. Easy to prepare, flavorful and colorful. As a side dish, it served 4 adults and 2 small children with some leftover for tomorrow. Next time I might add more broccoli for my personal preference. "

This salad turned out great! I've made it 2 times each a little differently. I use 2 med. or 1 large/1 small head of broccoli and par cook it for about 3-5 min. so it still has crunch and bright green color. I've tried shredded cheese the 1st time and tiny cubes the next time. I prefer the cubes b/c the shredded cheese was difficult to incorpor"

Reviewed Honey Wheat Bread

Nov 23, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is the best wheat bread I've ever had. It's light and slightly sweet. I was disappointed that this recipe had no directions on how long to let it rise and so on. I am new to making bread without a bread machine and this is only the second one I've tried. For my first resting period, it didn't rise very much after 60 min. so I turned on m...

Reviewed Savory Eggs with Peas and Shallots

Jul 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I used only 6 eggs and still had leftover's for a family of 4 (I also cooked some whole wheat pancakes to go along with it). I only had extra sharp cheddar cheese so I grated about 1 C. and could have used less since it has such a strong flavor. I wasn't sure how much to use since the recipe doesn't call for an amount. No shallots on hand so I "

Reviewed Honey Whole-Wheat Pancakes with Honey Lime Butter

Jul 6, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

My family enjoyed the pancakes very much. Unfortunately I only had about a 1/4 C. of whole wheat flour so I had to add an extra 1/4 C. AP flour. Since I didn't have any limes I used the zest of an orange to go with the honey butter. It was excellent. This recipe is easy to put together."

Reviewed Mint Chocolate Cheesecake

Jun 4, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I used 20 Girl Scout thin mint cookies for my crust and left out the additional sugar that was called for. I used a light sour cream and Neufchatel (light cream cheese) and semi-sweet chocolate chips. I had to cook the cake for an extra 10 min. to get it to set. Unfortunately I did not have an 8 in. square metal pan so I used a round 9 in. meta"

Reviewed Shepherd's Pie

Apr 27, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

We loved this recipe. I tweaked it a little. I skipped the bacon and tomato paste and substituted chicken broth for the beer. I didn't have enough potatoes so I added a cooked yam to the potatoes that I had. As I was cooking the beef I added 1/2 tspn. of Emeril's Essence. Instead of fresh carrots and frozen peas, I added a bag of frozen veget"

My family and I enjoyed this recipe. It was easy to put together and did not take long to execute. I omitted the beans and tomato paste since I didn't have any on hand. I added a 15 oz. can of diced tomatoes and 1 Tablespoon of sugar.

Reviewed Skillet Hamburger Stroganoff

Dec 20, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This was a great recipe. 3 out of 4 members of my family enjoyed this (even my husband who hated beef stroganoff as a child) I really liked that it was low fat and had so many veggies in it. It was fairly easy to prepare, just make sure that you allow at LEAST 45 min. (it took me about an hour I think.) I will definitely make this again.

Reviewed Pecan Pie

Nov 25, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

It was so easy and delicious. It was rich and smooth and went great with homemade ice cream. I added a 1/4 tsp. of salt and an extra cup of pecans and we all loved it. My pie was done in about 55 min. at 350 F and the crust was not overdone. Out of 3 desserts this Thanksgiving this one was the most talked about.

I love this recipe. I usually add 1/2 the amount of red pepper flake because I have kids who don't like anything spicy. It's great with just beef. This last time, I didn't have any bread crumbs and substituted quick cooking oatmeal and it turned out just fine. Instead of baking in a cupcake pan (which gets pretty messy) I use a cookie sheet lined...

I love this recipe. This is my third time to make this recipe and it turns out great every time. I use french bread because I don't think my young kids could chew a crusty bread very well and I just leave out the veggies for them. Even my husband agrees that this is a nice alternative to the traditional tuna sandwich (with mayo). This is a very...

Reviewed Double Crust Apple Pie

Oct 13, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

I am rating on the crust recipe only as I was trying to make a different pie. My mistake was in using salted butter and then adding the salt that was called for. None of us could eat the crust, instead we scooped out the pie filling and put it on ice cream. It was a waste to use so much butter and not enjoy the product. I'm sticking with my recipe...
