Reviewed sausage gravy

Jul 31, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

Excellent! I like the tip to add the flour to the cooked sausage (I usually took out the sausage and made a roux then added the sausage back in). This way the taste is so much better!

Reviewed Instant Pancake Mix

Excellent!! I will never use a box or any other recipe again! They came out moist and fluffy.

Reviewed Dragon's Breath Chili

Sep 29, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I make chili often, but was looking for a new recipe to change it up. This is the best chili recipe! It has layers of heat but not overwhelming. The only change I made was instead of beer and chicken stock, I used V8 juice. "

Reviewed Grilled Corn, Bacon and Chile Crostini

Sep 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was very good! My husband and kids loved it, but I thought it was missing something (maybe I will add a bit more spice for a kick next time). It was difficult eating off bread."

Reviewed Grilled Portobello Mushrooms with Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella

Aug 31, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Excellent! Because the portobellos I had were so big, it took 10 mins on each side to grill. My husband is not a huge mushroom fan, but he ate the whole thing and asked if there were more. Definately will make again!"

Reviewed Lemonade

Jun 27, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Made this exactly to recipe. This was pretty good...but a bit weak on the lemon taste. Too much sugar? Too little lemons? Next time, I will cut back on the sugar and add 1/2 cup more of fresh lemons. "

Reviewed Southern Fried Chicken

Jun 1, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I tried this for the first time and made a big mistake. I followed all the directions, but I didn't have enough oil to deep fry. So I filled half up and rotated sides as I fried. I finished it off in the oven. That is where I went wrong...putting it in the oven. Half was crispy (it was excellent) and the other half ended up getting a bit sogg"

Reviewed Seared Mahi Mahi with Zesty Basil Butter

Jun 1, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This couldn't be easier! A little of the sauce goes a long way to enhance the flavor of the mahi mahi. The only thing I did differently is that I had frozen basil and grated garlic (got them in packs from Costco) and add them to the butter mixture. I served this with wild rice and fresh salad...very summery!"

Reviewed Creamy Orzo

Jun 1, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Very creamy! I didn't have peas or yellow onions. So I substituted green onions in the first step, used fresh tomatoes (instead of canned) and didn't add peas. It was very good and my husband and kids ate the whole thing! I am making another batch tomorrow night."

Reviewed Beer-battered Asparagus with Garlic Aioli

May 15, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I am only rating the garlic aoli...I did not make asparagus. I needed something to zip up baked fries and this was perfect. I only had dried tarragon, not fresh, so I let it sit in the fridge for 30 mins longer. Honestly, it was so easy and very good. I have now used this as dipping sauce and spreads for all sorts of things."

Reviewed Spanish Chicken and Potato Roast

May 7, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Excellent!! I made a few changes....1) I didn't microwave - I just roasted the potatoes and onion mixture for 30 mins before adding the chicken. 2) I left out the lemon slices (too many reviews said the lemon was over powering with the slices). 3) Right before adding the chicken, I added 1 cup of hot water (before that there was no moister left"

Reviewed Cheddar Corn Chowder

Apr 30, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Excellent!! The first time, I make it exactly as is....very good. Second time, I added green chilies for a bit of a kick and it was perfect."

Reviewed Alice Jo's Spaghetti Sauce

Mar 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is extremely easy. I browned up ground beef, Italian sausage and onions first. Then I added that with all the other ingredients (except for the sugar) in my crockpot and cooked on low for 4 hours. My family doesn't like sweet spaghetti sauce, so I kept out the sugar and it was perfect. "

Reviewed Banana Bread with Pecans

Apr 29, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Hand down....this is the best banana bread!! I have made this quite a few times and it is gone almost as soon as it comes out of the oven. I make 2 batches as I don't like nuts in my bread, but my husband does. Either way, it is great!!"

Reviewed Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Apr 29, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This was pretty good. I have made it twice thinking I did something wrong the first time as it was a bit bland.....it was the same the 2nd time around. The kids loved it and the panko was a great crunch on top. However, making this exactly lacks some seasoning for us adults. Next time I will add some pepper jack (as a few people recommended). "

Reviewed Why-the-Chicken-Crossed-the-Road Santa Fe-Tastic Tortilla Soup

Dec 21, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Love this soup!! It got rave reviews at my Christmas party and now everyone wants the recipe. I only made 2 small changes/additions. 1) We like spicier food, so I put the entire small can of chipotle in adobo in - this is something only for those who really like spicy. 2) Once the soup was in individual bowls, I put a squeeze of fresh lime in ...

This is a great and hearty soup! I didn't use the turnip, I replaced it with leeks when making the stock. The only thing I would do different next time is add more carrots. This freezes well and my entire family loved it. I am a big believer in home made stock - it is worth the effort and much healthier than packaged.
