Reviewed Traditional Irish Soda Bread

Mar 18, 2014 in null on Food.com

Wonderful, authentic recipe. Being Irish myself and having been to Ireland twice, I can tell you this is a true Irish soda bread. Just 4 ingredients, mix the dough just until it comes together, shape and bake (or pan fry) it. The only thing I personally found a bit off was the temperature. After 15 minutes my bread was already getting brown, so I...

Wonderful! I did the garlic, tomato and salt part of the sauce the day before and cooked that all day in a crockpot the next day. This helped get rid of the tinny taste in the canned tomatoes. Halfway through the day I added the clam juice, then added the clams and basil the last hour. Such a simple dish but so delicious! Will make this again and...

"Hi Mirj, I love your blog and yes, your daughters ARE stunning!! :). My question is about the pumpkin (kabocha) risotto recipe you posted to food.com. I have made it before, and in fact it's my photos that are on there. It was such a delicious meal, I am making it tonight for some people I am talking to about a chef job on their yacht!!! Very good, hummus-like dip. My advice would be to go half on the lemon juice, salt, oregano and garlic, then add more to taste. I found I needed less of all these ingredients than was called for. I didn';t measure the oil, just added until I got the consistency I wanted. Will definitely keep this recipe and make it again. Thanks for posting!"

Very good. I added a little sage, too which adds a nice flavor. For some protein I also added a can of butter beans, rinsed and drained. Yum! I think next time I will also add mushrooms to give a little more flavor and juice. Might also top with parmesan. Will definitely make again. "

I know it's cheating to change the recipe and rate it, but I got such rave reviews I needed to write in. I used jarred Rao's sauce, which is well worth the $8++ you might pay for it. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I know the sauce is the majority of the recipe, but this is also the only recipe I could find that didn't require a ton"

Everyone, the purpose of this site is not to debate the tools, but the recipe. However, to dispell the rumors, there is no warning on the Zip loc or SC Johnson site regarding heating their bags. Nor has there ever been. In fact most of them state they are microwave safe. As a chemist, I can tell you there are far more things for you to worry your...

HOLY COW BATMAN!!!!! This is unbelievable! This is only the second frozen dessert I have made. The first one was lousy so I almost didn't try this. So glad I did! It tastes like a frozen strawberry smoothie. Followed the recipe exactly except I actually used non fat yogurt and about 1/2 tsp vanilla. The texture was still wonderful and I couldn't t"

When I read the fat and calorie contents for this recipe I almost fell on the floor. But it sounded so good! So for 2 mushrooms I halved the recipe, using only a half tsp butter and 1 tbsp olive oil. The veggies lend plenty of liquid so you don't get a dry dish if you hold back on the fats. I then used lite cream cheese, lite shredded cheddar che...

This is an excellent recipe! I added a little mozzarella and extra parmesan [to taste] and two cloves of garlic. Added only half the chili flakes which gave just a slight hint of heat. Next time I also might add only 5 oz of cream cheese, though this recipe was delicious as is. This will be my new go to for parties. Highly recommended."

I made this for my Dad and he loved it. I cooked what I think was a 6 ounce piece on 7 [medium high] for exactly 5 minutes on each side, quickly searing around the sides as well. This made it about medium rare to medium. A couple of things I learned the hard way: Because I only made one steak, I only used a half ounce of brandy and this wasn't eno"

I made this with chicken for 3 people and tilapia for myself. Used veggie broth rather than chicken broth. The comments about the lemon juice are so true.
