Not Perfect But Very Good
I stupidly forgot to read the reviews before preparing this and they would have been useful. There is A LOT of garlic in this recipe, especially for a BBQ sauce, or at the least the BBQ sauces I usually make. I'm not sure I would have halved it, as some reviewers suggested, but I definitely would have reduced it...

Reviewed kathleen king's double chocolate almond cookies

Jun 5, 2014 on

This is a very good and accurate recipe. I used a 1 3/4" scoop like Kathleen did on the show and had no problem getting 53 plus cookies from this recipe. While I agree that the chocolate somewhat overwhelmed the almonds, I do think the almonds add great texture and somehow make the cookies less sweet. I don't usually like nuts in cookies but I do...

Reviewed pesto-rubbed baked salmon with smashed cucumber and green apple salad

Mar 14, 2014 on

I wanted to love this recipe but found it sort of disappointing. The topping for the fish was good, but the fish was cooked at such a low temperature for such a short time that it wasn't very hot..... even straight out of the oven. The salad just didn't work for me. There was too much apple, the cuke was a bit watery, and the whole thing was too tart...

Reviewed Grilled Skirt Steak with Green and Smokey Red Chimichurri

Jun 15, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This really was very delicious. I marinated the steak in the green chimichurri for about 8 hours. (Next time I will do it overnight to see if there is a difference.) The main ingredient that ultimately came through was the garlic. We really couldn't taste the herbs, but no matter. The true star of this dish is the absolutely sensational red chimic"

Reviewed Herbed Lamb Chops with Homemade Ketchup

May 26, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I did not make the lamb chops but this ketchup recipe is beyond delicious. My family thought I was a bit eccentric making ketchup--Who makes ketchup?--but after tasting it agreed that going back to the bottle variety can't happen. I made the recipe exactly as stated and it was so easy and delicious. Really a 6 Star recipe. Do yourself a favor and "

Apr 8, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

These really were great. I mixed up a batch before Mad Men the other night. Since we had Crown Royal in the house I just used that, but otherwise made the drink as Ina directed. I'm not a huge whiskey fan because most drinks I've had with whiskey taste too boozy (in a bad way) for me. This one wasn't terribly strong and the fresh citrus was specta"

Reviewed Whole-Wheat Pita Chips with Mascarpone-Chive Dipping Sauce

Apr 2, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

The best part about this recipe was the pita chips. Delicious and crunchy.....they could even be eaten without the dip. I, too, found the dip rather lackluster....and this was after adding extra bacon and chives! The texture was gorgeous, so creamy and smooth but it just wasn't very flavorful. Sorry, Giada, but this recipe is a miss."

Reviewed Perfect Pot Roast

Feb 26, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is a good recipe for pot roast, but not the best I've made. The meat was definitely tender, but the broth was way too thin. Perhaps making a gravy like the previous reviewer suggested is a good idea. I, too, served this with mashed potatoes but was disappointed that pouring the broth over the potatoes thinnned the potatoes out too much. This "

Reviewed Mango Chutney

Jan 22, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I wanted to like this recipe. It was easy with very few ingredients But I found the result really disappointing, especially after all the previous rave reviews. The flavor wasn't at all complex like a chutney needs to be. I realize this was probably because there were so few ingredients. I'll never make it again. Just wasn't very flavorful."

Reviewed Red Berry Trifle

Dec 26, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I love Ina but this recipe was a huge disappointment. I made all of the components as directed with decidedly mixed results. I agree on all counts with the previous reviewer. Instead of using my usual poundcake recipe, which I love, I made Ina's. I found it rather dry and 9 slices of it would have to be really saturated to accommodate a cup of the"

Nov 3, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This recipe is an absolute disaster and I wish there was a negative star rating for it. Shame on the Food Network for printing this in the magazine and also including it online. I, too, followed the directions exactly. There is no way that what I got in return even remotely resembled the picture in the magazine. The editors must have bought the pe"

Reviewed Coconut Macaroons

Dec 26, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

These macaroons were a HUGE disappointment. Aside from being incredibly runny and ugly looking they were way tooooooooo sweet. I've made macaroons tons of times, using many different recipes and this was by far the worst. Very disappointing as I usually love Ina's recipes and find them, generally, reliable. Martha Stewart, whose recipes often don't...
