Reviewed Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms

Aug 6, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I enjoy Paula Deen and am seldom disappointed by either her or many of the other top-rated recipes from Food Network chefs. But for me, this one was a bomb. The flavors didn't combine well, and the breadcrumbs just sat on top without adding anything more than a slightly crunchy texture. I served them to guests, so it was a bit embarrassing. Sig"

Reviewed Flag Cake

Cornmeal -- bad idea. My daughter and I spent the afternoon making this cake, just for fun. It has the potential to be a good cake, but not as long as you include the cornmeal in the recipe. I should have known better. Next time, stick to a basic white cake recipe as Jarnette did. AND, make 150% of the frosting recipe, or you simply won't...

Reviewed Perfect Roast Chicken

Moist and delicious. We added sweet potatoes, sliced thick enough not to burn, and the sweetness was a nice complement to the chicken. We also threw in some sliced Brussels sprouts toward the end.""

Reviewed Turkey with Herbes de Provence and Citrus

Nov 24, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is one of the best turkeys we've ever made, and we've made plenty. It was nice not to brine the turkey, and the result was just as flavorful and moist. The juices make a great gravy, too, although I followed the usual gravy recipe -- skimmed drippings plus flower, then added juices and stock. Excellent. ""

Reviewed Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Spicy Caramel Apple Sauce and Vanilla Bean Creme Anglaise

Nov 24, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

We just had this for Thanksgiving dessert. It's very good, especially the bread pudding and creme Anglaise. I agree with other reviewers that a) it is a LOT of work, and b) the combination is a bit sweet -- you may not need the caramel at all. But the dish was a hit and worth the time my daughter and I put in. Even my teenage son, who doesn't...

Reviewed Garlic Roasted Green Beans with Shallots and Hazelnuts

Apr 9, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

It's not easy to dress up green beans, but this has enough flavor to serve as a side dish for a dinner party. I used pecans instead of hazelnuts since I'm not a big fan of the latter."

Reviewed Spaghetti Bolognese

Mar 20, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Very good taste. I agree with other reviewers, who said time is the key ingredient here. The one reason I give it 4 rather than 5 stars is because I expected a bit thicker sauce after 2 hours. But I suspect that when we have the leftovers, the taste and texture will only improve."

Reviewed Spinach, Mushroom, and Four Cheese Lasagna

Delicious recipe. As others have said, double the amount of mushrooms. And I would triple the amount of spinach. I also turned on the broiler for the last couple of minutes to brown the cheese just a bit.
