Reviewed Throwdown's German Chocolate Cake with Coconut-Pecan-Cajeta Frosting, Chocolate Ganache and Coconut Whipped Cream

"This one lost the throw-down, right? The cakes were delicious and moist. The ganache was good too, but the caramel frosting was lacking. After 90 minutes of reducing (and with the pan reduced to half its original content), it still wasn't thick, so I double-checked the recipe to make sure I had not mis-read the amount of each liquid. I had read correctly. I chilled the caramel, which helped thicken it SLIGHTLY, but it never reached the consistency of a caramel sauce. The flavor was also a little off and spoiled the cake as a whole. It is a beautiful cake, and the cakes themselves were delicious, so I will probably just make my own caramel sauce from another recipe next time.

Reviewed Hot Artichoke-Spinach Dip

"I made this for Christmas Sunday lunch with my parents and sister. Since she's a vegetarian (pro ovo-lacto), I substituted the water from the can of artichokes for the chicken stock and omitted the Worcestershire sauce. Her fiance hates spinach-artichoke dips because they are usually chocked full of mayo (which grosses me out too and don't have much flavor). This one was savory and very flavorful. He loved it. She loved it. We all enjoyed the recipe very much. Adding this to my kitchen notebook, I will make this one again and again. Thanks Food Network!
