This is excellent without the ham. It is served like this all over Italy and is surprising in its' simplicity. I don't bother with arguing over the cost, but I did figure this out.... without ham. I paid 89 cents for a day old baguette and 40 cents for the tomato. I guess the olive oil might have been a few cents more. Anyway, it's a classic....
