I am amazed at the negative comments about this cake - we found it simple to make and fabulous to eat. But if people were expecting something more like a regular cake that you make with a low-gluten cake flour, then THEY picked the wrong recipe. Excellent recipe! Tender, moist sponge cake and just the right amount of "sponge!" This was SOOO easy to make! We even cut the cake into small rounds like in the picture, just for the fun of it. I am adding this recipe to my newly-created recipe box!"

Excellent recipe! I did use all butter, though (not a fan of hydrogenated shortenings). I also used an extra egg for more richness. Wonderfully moist pound cake with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside. Note - make sure to use a GOOD quality cocoa - it is definitely worth the extra cost.
