Reviewed flat apple pie with perfect pie crust

Jun 19, 2014 on

Not her best recipe. I'm great at desserts and followed this recipe to the letter. The flavor was flat, the crust tightened up and got greasy, and the crust didn't hold the insides. My pan is full of sticky liquid that acted as a glue holding the pies down. They tore when I tried to remove them (carefully, with two spatulas) and spilled even more...

Reviewed meatloaf meatballs with horseradish mash and gravy

Apr 28, 2014 on

As Rachael would say, DELISH! I followed the recipe more closely than the other reviewer, with excellent results. The egg yolk in the gravy is a revelation--it really does hang out on the tongue longer, and it's silky and glossy! I didn't do the horseradish in the potatoes--I used garlic and loved it all together in the dish! I do recommend that...

Reviewed Cheese Boat

Nov 3, 2013 on

This recipe is PERFECTION! I made this for the first time on Halloween (a few nights ago), and also served another batch at different functions for the next two nights. It's that good--you just want to bring it everywhere to bless people with the great flavor! It's totally customizable--I can see making it Italian with some fresh basil and topped...

Reviewed Berry Custard Pie

Sep 20, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

It looked easy and yummy on TV, but in execution it was awful! I'm a great dessert maker, so I don't make silly rookie mistakes. However, I made this twice before I gave up. The custard separated from the berries, the middle refused to set, and the edges got over-caramelized. I don't know what it was, but it for sure didn't work for me!"

Reviewed Parmesan-Roasted Broccoli

Sep 20, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

I have hated cooked broccoli my ENTIRE life, but this recipe caught my interest because of the yummy combination of ingredients. I LOVE this dish! It's easily customizable if you don't have 4-5 pounds of broccoli. I used walnuts instead of pine nuts to save on the cost, and they were great. If you already like cooked broccoli, you'll like this"

I made these for the first time for breakfast on Easter 2013, and in two months I've made them about five more times. My husband, two-year-old daughter, and I LOVE them! It's important to measure the liquids so the pancakes cook through, but I think it's also customizable (I plan on adding 1/2 C shredded zucchini next time, and I also added grou"

Reviewed Chicken Stock

Apr 18, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This recipe is great--a Barefoot Contessa standard. There are so many chicken stock recipes out there that could be "iffy" as far as flavor goes, but this one is basic and delicious. Ina Garten's food is so my style--and she's been making recipes like this stock for decades. THE ONLY PROBLEM I have is lack of access to a HUGE pot that can hold "

I made these for the first time yesterday for Easter breakfast, and my husband and two-year-old daughter (as well as my picky self) LOVED them! We had the leftovers for breakfast again just now, and my daughter thinks I'm awesome for giving her chocolate for breakfast--she kept calling them "cookies"! I've finally pinned down the flavor profile-"

Reviewed Chicken Noodle Soup

Aug 24, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

Almost as perfect as Ina's Engagement Chicken, these two recipes are epic! I've made both the stock and the soup. I don't typically like chicken noodle soup, but when made with the homemade stock, it's just DELIGHTFUL! My only caution if using the stock is to taste before adding ANY salt to the soup because there is already plenty from the stoc"

Reviewed Engagement Roast Chicken

Feb 27, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on

This is the most delicious chicken recipe in the universe! I eternally love Ina Garten for this. I've adjusted the recipe a touch--I add just about a teaspoon of sugar to the sauce. The bite of lemon is amazing, but without the sugar to cut the bitterness just a tad, it assaults my palate a bit too much. My husband and I stand around the stov...
