Reviewed Onion Dip from Scratch

May 27, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Wow, this is delicious. Everyone loved the dip. This is the second amazing recipe I've tried of Alton Brown's. The other is his cocoa brownies. You have to try them if you haven't. This dip was amazing, and I will never ever buy the package stuff again. It is so easy, and most likely you already have the ingredients at home. "

Wow, really rich, but also really delicious! Definitely need a nice crisp green salad to accompany. I also left out the second stick of butter as another reviewer recommended. There really is no need for it! ""

These are great brownies. Nice and dense and 'fudgey.' I'm not a fan of cakey brownies, so these are perfect. ""

These are delicious, easy, and really quick to make. I took other reviewer's advice and used salted butter instead of unsalted. ""

Reviewed Flour's Famous Banana Bread

Jan 5, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Wow, these are awesome. I used 4 bananas instead of 3 1/2, used 1 c. white flour and 2/3 c. wheat, added a little extra cinnamon, and sprinkled white sugar on top. I made them into muffins and baked them for a little under 30 mins. They turned out perfectly. I think the sour cream and the toasting of the walnuts really made the difference for thi...

Reviewed Easy Enchilada Sauce

Dec 30, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Wow! Spiiiicy! But again, it depends on the chili powder you're using and your own taste. I followed the recipe exactly, but it was somewhat thick. To dampen down the spiciness and to thin it out, I added another cup of broth and it is much better that way. I think this is a great base for this sauce, and you can play around with the recipe to ad...

Reviewed Old-Fashioned Sweet Potato Pie

Dec 26, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I liked this recipe, and got compliments on it, but the pie filling was a little to watery for my taste. The crust got soggy pretty quickly after cutting into the pie. I did bake the potatoes instead of boiling them... maybe I'll try using a thicker milk like others have suggested (heavy cream, etc.). It did take much longer than the 45 mins sta...

Dec 26, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

These were really good. Unfortunately I didn't have phyllo dough, so instead I put the filing in puff pastry squares and made little turn-overs. Would definitely make these again. I made the recipe as is (used all the lemon), and it turned out great. ""

This is great. I left out one potato and added a cup of white beans, used frozen corn and canned tomatoes, but otherwise followed the recipe. Simple and yummy, and the whole family likes it.""

Reviewed Indian Rice Pudding

Dec 17, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is delicious and easy. Great way to use up leftover jasmine rice, and a great way to get some milk into my picky 14 month old, who loved this too. I used whole milk for the milk and cream, and left out the pistachios, and this turned out great. I think next time I'll add in some dried apricots with the raisins. ""

Reviewed Zucchini Bread

Dec 15, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

hmmm... I think I went overboard this time on adapting the recipe to be more 'healthy.' I subbed applesauce for the oil, subbed half of the all-purpose flour with wheat flour, and only used 2 cups of sugar, one of which was brown sugar. Next time I'm going to make the recipe as is. At least my 14 month old likes it, and I don't feel bad giving hi...

Reviewed Shortbread Cookies

Dec 10, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

This is the first time I tried to make shortbread cookies. These tasted really good but I think I must have done something a little wrong because the dough was pretty crumbly, even after I put it in the fridge for 30 mins. Is that how it should be? I could still mold the cookies into shapes, but it wasn't exactly perfect. I'll try making these ag...

Reviewed Eggplant Gratin

Dec 8, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Just made this for the first time, and it was delicious! I baked the eggplant like some others suggested because I've had that oily fried eggplant experience before. 400 degree oven, brushed the slices with olive oil, 10-12 mins on each side and the slices were nice and golden brown. I did this in a 9-inch glass pie dish instead of the two gratin...

Reviewed Lemon Bars

May 31, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Just made these today. They are really delicious. The lemon custard part is perfect- I disagree with some of the other ratings that say it is too sweet/tart, but I like stronger-tasting things. The crust, however, is somewhat crumbly. I have to be extremely careful to get the bars out of the pan in one piece. I will make these again for sure, but "
