About Me

Been in the kitchen since I was a little girl, learning how to scramble eggs on my own at 8. Recipes are for inspiration, and I've been so inspired by what I've found here at Recipezaar. My spouse and I enjoy cooking together and some of our best creations could almost never be duplicated. It's whatever's on hand, whatever we feel like, and are inspired by from TV cooking shows to what we can find in cookbooks collected for over 30 years.

One of my go-to books is an old Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. I couldn't afford the nice binder when I was a young bride; my dog-eared softcover shows evidence of being well used and well loved. My all time favorite cookbook is The Boston Cooking School Cookbook, 1943 edition, written by Fanny Farmer. It was given to me at 16 by my mom who received it at the same from her mother. I hope one day, our four children will pick up the "cooking-bug."

My only pet peeve seems to be when guys are gals think they don't know how to cook, when they've never given themselves a real chance.

My passions: Gardening with Joseph, cooking with Joseph, traveling everywhere - we're planning on some national parks in 2010, and of course my family!

Favorite Foods

Ultimate comfort foods: baked macaroni and cheese; My Joseph's home made soup.

I'm famous for great salads - I know what's the deal, but everyone likes what I put into them and the fact that my dressings are homemade.

People also like my banana bread, and my tuna pasta salad - that's a favorite of our youngest. He could eat it every day.

My favorite restaurants: too many to choose from. Mostly they're holes-in the wall; not chain restaurants. All ethnic foods are appealing to me, although I still haven't gotten too enthusuastic over many sushi selections.
