My Activity

Reviewed Artichoke and Bean Crostini

"There's nothing wrong with this recipe, but my impression was that it's quite bland. It wasn't salty, just didn't have much flavor. I added a couple of shakes of cayenne which helped. Doubt I'll make it again."

Reviewed Penne with Braised Short Ribs

"Delish! I used a big can of San Marzano tomatoes instead of fresh. Perfect comfort food."

Reviewed Brie Smothered Pork Chops

"Thank you to the reviewer "Jess". I also omitted the apples. I used lots of onions and sliced mushrooms in the pan sauce. I also used brandy instead of Calvados. The pork was tender and juicy, however, I wish I had trimmed all of the fat from the edges prior to cooking because it's hidden under the sauce. Served the dish with boiled red potatoes, "

Reviewed Crunch Crazy Asparagus Spears

"I figured these would be great, but they weren't. Like the other 2-star reviewer, there was no flavor. There was a nice crunch, but the flavorless planko drowned out the flavor of the asparagus. Most were left on the serving plate."

Reviewed Cheddar and Scallion Bread

"Tasted good, but loaded with guilt. I generally won't sacrifice taste for calories -- I try to eat smaller portions of really good food. However, when I lifted the bread off the pan to cut it, the pool of melted butter/cheese left on the pan was a clear indication of way too much volume of ingredients that should be used in moderation. The scallions and cheddar gave it a wonderful taste, but next time I'm going to ease up on the amount of cheddar and cut the butter amount in at least half. I'll bet it'll taste just as good.

Reviewed Chicken Fried Steak

"I want to give 5 stars for the Chicken Fried Steak and 3 stars for the gravy. The steak was perfect.

The gravy was way too heavy and didn't have enough flavor. If you're going to make the gravy, I'd recommend using half the flour, eliminate the cream and thinning with beef broth. I think I'd use a spicy sausage next time.
