Reviewed Rotini with Salsa di Limone

"I've made this a few times (with the feta) for my very picky husband and we both love it! He even requested it recently. It's so simple to make but it has a great, fresh, light taste.""

Reviewed Harira: Moroccan Chickpea Stew with Chicken and Lentils

"Delicious! I left out the chicken and the rice and used canned chick peas, and the harira still did not seem to be lacking anything."

Reviewed Homemade Tomato Soup

"Delicious. I made it without the heavy cream and chicken stock because I didn't have any on hand. Also, I substituted fennel for celery. It tasted great and it would probably be even better with the chicken stock and a touch of cream.

Reviewed Candy Cane Cookies

"These cookies were great and very easy to make. I split the dough into fourths instead of in half and made half the cookies with peppermint extract and half with almond extract. For the peppermint ones, I used 1/4 teaspoon of the extract, and the cookies came out with the perfect amount of mint flavoring (a little more wouldn't hurt, though). For the almond cookies, I used a little more than 1/4 teaspoon of the extract, and the cookies were good but with little almond flavor.

The only downside to these cookies is that, while soft when fresh from the oven, the cookies quickly become hard as they cool. I prefer soft cookies, but I suppose this is a small trade off for how easy these cookies are to make. And just a side note, I refrigerated the dough before I made the cookies because it was a little sticky. After leaving it in the fridge for 10-30 minutes, the dough was perfect--not sticky at all.

About Me

Four years ago, my biggest cooking accomplishments were pancakes, homemade pizza dough, and eggs over-easy.  After moving to Germany, however, my desire not to starve trumped my inexperience, and with the help of some friends, I learned how to cook.  Now, most recipes and novel creations are a piece of cake.  I still haven't gotten up the courage to try to make real croissants, though.  One of these days...

Favorite Foods

I love mint.  I'm not a big fan of ice cream.  I love trying foods from all around the world.  The Middle Eastern and North African cuisines are two of my favorites.
