Reviewed Bay Scallop Gratin

"Very simple to make and delicious! I used bacon instead of pancetta because I had it on hand. I also added a bit of lemon zest to the breadcrumb topping and it turned out wonderful.

A note to kakino5@aol,com, reviewer on 10/05/10, "gratin" simply means a dish cooked or baked topped with bread crumbs and butter, and/or cheese. Not sure what you believe is missing here (likely you were looking for something with melty oozy cheese? Not sure that would make for the best scallop dish IMO). It's really a shame that you rated the recipe low simply because you misunderstood the terminology.

Reviewed Pasta and Beans: Pasta e Fagioli

"This is a wonderful soup that is easy to make, and I love that this is basically a "pantry" soup because I usually have all of the ingredients on hand. I used bacon instead of pancetta, and removed it from the pan after rendering the fat. I kept the bacon pieces on the side for anyone to add to their bowl if they wanted to, but nobody did. I didn't drain the beans, and I thought this helped thicken the broth. I omitted the added water, but did use 2 quarts of low-sodium chicken broth and 1/2 lb of ditalini. I think the proportions were great. The pasta soaked up lots of the broth but still left plenty in the pan so this was a thick soup.
