Reviewed Beer Batter Frito Misto

Jan 6, 2014 on FoodNetwork.com

I found this made a very thick batter. By the time the coating was cooked through, the shrimp were cooked to death. I increased the beer to 20 ounces and was extremely pleased with the results.

Yummy, interesting dish. I'd never had shrimp and grits before, but I know I'll be making it again now! I omitted the butter, and didn't miss it - still came out very rich w/ all the cheese and bacon. In addition, I sauteed finely chopped jalapenos and Anaheim peppers from my garden w/ the shrimp (probably inspired by the picture of Mr. Flay, h"

I used a mixture of regular red beets, plus candy and orange beets from the farmer's market. They came out a beautiful mix of colors! Subbed balsamic vinegar and tangerine juice, because that's what I had - came out delicious. The next day, the leftovers that had been marinating in the dressing overnight were even sweeter, and delicious cold. "

Jan 25, 2012 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

Comfort food with a sophisticated twist! This is my first experience cooking short ribs - I think the recipe would be almost as good (not nearly as rich), less time consuming, and less expensive with chuck roast cut into large chunks instead. That said, I will definitely consider making this recipe every time I see short ribs go on sale in the ...

Reviewed Homemade Blackberry Jam

Jul 1, 2011 in null on Food.com

This was the second jam I ever made - it was very easy to make and my husband says it's the best jam he's ever tasted! The only hiccup (not related to the recipe though) was that we discovered to our horror that there were little larvae in the blackberries we picked from a pick your own farm. We fished out as many as we could, jokingly refer to...

Reviewed Corn and Goat Cheese Chili con Queso with Sourdough Cornbread

Jun 14, 2011 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I just made the cornbread. It came out great, though it took forever before it was actually done (fork would come out clean but when I tried to slice it, it was still doughy in the middle). Nice change from regular cornbread and easy introduction to cooking w/ a starter."

Yum!! So easy and delicious! I made this as a 2-layer cake for Easter frosted with an easy ganache instead of the frosting it called for, with a ring of stemless maraschino cherries around the top. To make the ganache I just heated a cup of evaporated milk to boiling, poured it over 12 oz semi sweet chocolate chips in a bowl, whisked until smoot"

This recipe is awesome!! It didn't come out smoky, so I'd probably skip the hickory chips and add a little liquid smoke to the mop sauce next time, but wow! The pork came out tender and flavorful and the "bark" really kicked it up a notch. The barbecue sauce is really intense (in a good way); but I think most people could probably get away with...

Reviewed Cheese Ball Goblin

Nov 1, 2010 in Food Network Community Toolbox on Food Network

I made this yesterday for the first time and got my husband to decorate him. It was so cute! I also successfully lightened up the recipe (I don't know - is it sacrilege to lighten a Paula Deen recipe?) by replacing one of the 8-oz packs of cream cheese in the middle with an 8-oz pack of fat free cheese and one of the tubs of whipped cream cheeses...
