Reviewed Garth's Breakfast Bowl

May 11, 2013 in Food Network Community Toolbox on FoodNetwork.com

I'm not grooving on the tortellini. I'd prefer a couple of layers of cheesy grits to plaster the other ingredients together into one cohesive dish. Hot sauce at the table. 3 stars for a very cute idea."

I dunno about this one. I followed the recipe exactly, eliminating only the mint because I didn't have any. It tastes delicious, but looks ugly as sin, nothing like Anne's, because I had to cook the death out of the artichokes to get them tender. Maybe they weren't ripe enough? I agree with JennJenn. The recipe, as written, simply doesn't make sense. Baking "in a foil package" is unnecessary. A gimmick. The ingredients are fine and lovely, but the procedure is way out of whack."

Loved it. I used to make the creamywhitesauce-type of mac & cheese, but I think I like it better this way. I added a bit of cayenne for zip and will do so again. "

Like the other reviewers, I reduced the ketchup. I substituted 1 cup of ketchup for 1 cup of tomato sauce, and reduced it down. The final product was still a mite sweet for me, so next time, I will use still less ketchup, probably 3/4 cup, and a maybe touch more vinegar. Someone mentioned worcestershire ... I like that idea too. All in all, ho"
